Two great strikes by David Moore saw Waterford United advance to the quarter finals of the eircom League Cup at the expense of Drogheda United at the RSC tonight.

The former Cork City player sat on the bench until he came on as a substitute late on, and he had ensured the Blues' passage into the next round within 20 minutes of his introduction.

And in a miserable end to a miserable night for Drogheda, goalkeeper Gary Rogers was red carded for chopping down Kevin O'Brien at the death.

Moore scored his first goal after 75 minutes. He accepted a pass from Barry Wood, cut inside two defenders and rifled the ball into the top corner.

If lightning does not strike twice, Moore did the same 10 minutes later, this time into the bottom corner after a pass by John Frost.

The classy midfielder lit up what had been a pretty uninspiring second half, though both sides enjoyed goalscoring oppportunities in the opening period.

After Colin O'Brien came close on two occasions for the Blues, Drogheda's Dave Kelly was brilliantly denied by Paul Binder following a mistake by Brendan Rea.
