To me, every local derby feels like a cup final.

Me too. We don't have enough of them.

That's fair enough, and of course there's more of an edge to our games with Cork than for other games, because it is a local derby.

My point is this - some (and only some, it has to be said) Cork fans - like the post I was replying to - like to drop the "its your Cup Final" line into the discussion, as if the game was our be-all and end-all, whilst its just another game to them, as befits their presumed status.

This conveniently ignores Cork's recent history - a history I don't need to restate here, whilst also ignoring the two clubs' results against each other and league positions in recent seasons. It also ignores the longer historical curve of the two clubs.

One can only assume that there is a need in some Cork fans to wish away these inconvenient facts by acting like a bigger club than history suggests they are.

To be honest i'm fairly indifferent on the whole thing but i would say that what you are outlining there is mainly manifested in the behaviour / comment of Waterfurd fans from what i can see. I do think that the banter and build up is good though and it adds to the game for everyone. Last night wasn't just another game for us though, we needed to get the three point and two more goals for Cummins is brilliant.

well stop acting like a bigger club than history suggests when Waterford stop pretending they were formed before 1982

I don't have any particular beef with you el-pietro - your analysis always seems pretty solid. However, playing the "when was your club really formed?" game is perhaps a risky one for Cork fans?

Anyone from Bohs wanna give a match summary that is honest ??
Ref rating included please.:excruciating:

I'm neutral, but here goes:
That was a terrible match. It was awful. Neither team deserved to win but the ref was ok (apart for the sending off - didn't understand what that was for)
Mark Rossiter should buy a taxi plate or get a job in Fusco's or somewhere - I stopped counting his uncompleted passes when they hit double figures.
Two hours plus that I will never get back.

To be honest if you to the Bohs forum most of them are giving a fair overview of their own teams performance. Most say that Bohs were poor excluding Brennan, Heary and Quigley for us. Not to many talking about the ref though.

Brennan was dirt, Gave the ball away way too many times

Terrible game, Dundalk just about the better team up until the sending off (not sure what happened there) they Bohs took control of the game but still really created nothing

Wont claim to be neutral ;) but agree the match was awful stuff. Both teams appeared far more afraid of losing than they were of winning (probobly because it was end of season for whoever lost). Both teams are capable of much better fare and I can only presume the "fear factor" stifled both. With Bohs playing one up front and Dundalk playing very deep it was void of any attacking/entertaining football. Quigs looked class for Dundalk - best I have seen him play - but played too far away from goal and was restricted to long range efforts. Bohs had a lot of the play but did little with it and Dundalk had the clearer chances (all two of them). Killer and Heary at least showed a bit of urgency.
Too far away to see what happened with the red (other side of pitch) presumed there was dissent as did not see any foul worth a red but Connolly was poor all night (for/against both sides) so anything is possible

Difficult to say either team "deserved" to win but given the level of possesion they enjoyed Bohs probobly just shaded it. For the fans that attended - 2 hours of our lives we will never get back:rolleyes:

Good summation marino.Quigley will no doubt win Dundalk FC player of the season. If he was with a side that was to win a leauge or a cup he would prob be in the running for LOI Player of the season, and i say that easily and without doubt. It is a pity that his mate,Jayo Byrne never showed up along side him.
