Republic of Ireland Under-17 Head coach John Morling has confirmed his 20-player squad for this week's double-header friendly against Serbia to be played at Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford.

The first game between the nations is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 (7.30pm) before they meet again on Thursday, September 15 (12 noon).

These will be first games of the campaign for Morling's Ireland squad and will serve as preparation for the first phase qualifiers of the UEFA Under-17 Championship to be played in Kazakhstan from October 18-24.

Ireland will face Liechtenstein, Kazakhstan and Czech Republic in the round-robin mini-group aiming to clinch one of two automatic berths into next spring's elite qualifying stage.

Morling believes these matches will provide the ideal warm-up for the squad.

"Serbia will likely be the best team our lads have played against since they began their international careers," he said.

"Their record of qualification for UEFA finals at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 is impressive and their teams are always technically gifted and physically strong.

"With the football and logistical challenges our players can expect to face in Kazakhstan, these games will be a great learning experience for them.

"The facility at Wexford Youths FC is top-class and the pitch is in excellent condition too. I know we'll have a good turnout at the two matches and I'm sure the supporters will see top talent in action."

Remember when they used to do programmes for these games. The good ol' days

Nice to see young Kevin O'Connor selected. 2 young Pats players called up in 2 weeks with Niall Lanigan playing for the U19s last week

He has hardly fliped floped between countries considering he has never played for england! Also they seem to conveniently forget that Graham played for us first and then later switched to england just like Reece Collier of crystal palace did this year

Byrne has played the last 2 youth games for utd since joining in the summer. he is one of the few strikers in the utd under 18 set up this season and another of them wilson looks to be out for the season so Byrne should get alot of action. Byrne was a starter for the ireland under 17s last season as well. Should be goals in this team with byrne, oneill wilkinson and wixted

I've heard good things about Kyle McFadden. Any one know if he got in?

1-1 in the second game against Serbia. Ireland missed a penalty near the end to win it.
