Shels have just released a statement on this in the last few minutes. Looks like Limerick are in the semis

That statement was out a few hours ago. I take it from that though that Shels will appeal. They don't say that they won't.

Same old FAI, always favouring Limerick.

Shels have every reason to appeall this decision. They should at the very least be offered a replay with Sheriff, but more likely would probably be them taking the place of Sheriff in the quarter finals.
Madness putting Limerick into the semi finals, no way should you just be given a bye to that stage of the compeition .

...... You gotta love the FAI, another weird decision with two clubs having a chance to appeal (Sherrif and Shels) No doubt when the decision is changed then Limerick can appeal......

Feel sorry for Sheriff on the issue but expect Shels will be furious, after all they were put out ofthe FAI Cup by a team playing an ineligible player. A replay between Shels/Sheriff would be an ideal outcome (so expect we can rule out that option)

I expect the putting Limerick straight through rather than giving Shels a reprieve is an attempt to bury the whole subject of this thread! Having said that, I'm surprised the rule book isn't clear on this - there was a time when that Shels statement would've been quoting the specific parts, not having to go looking for legal advice!

Thats exactly why the FAI have done this however the difficulty of doing this has meant that the Shels board have had to react which is what they had been avoiding all week.

They have no choice but to appeal it now.

If this happened in the semi-finals, instead of reinstating a team, would the FAI opt for no final?!

That happened in the North didn't it? If I recall correctly, Portadown were awarded the cup after Cliftonville were thrown out after winning a semi. (Could have details wrong there but i'm pretty sure the gist is right)

Yea Mr A, remember Cliftonville were thrown out for fielding an ineligible player after winning semi. Think you are also correct in saying IFA cup was awarded (without a final) to the other qualifying team Portadown. Thought at the time it was a bad decision all round so no surprise to see the FAI copy it
