Daniel Kearns' move from Dundalk to Peterborough has been agreed: http://oneteaminireland.blogspot.com/

Dundalk today today agreed the transfer of Ireland U21 international Daniel Kearns to English Championship club Peterborough United, subject to final details being completed in the coming days.

Belfast born Kearns, who was set for his 50th appearance for the club on Tuesday night, is expected to travel to England on Monday for a medical, with a deal set to go through once that and the other relevant paperwork is completed.

(Surprised Kearns doesn't have a thread already...)

It was only a matter of time for Kearns really.

No previous thread but I've heard his name mentioned once or twice.. ;)

All the best to him.

Best of luck to him - he definitely has the talent. Saw him twice this season and both times his movement and his technique was a class above.

I used to follow the West Ham reserves pretty closely and he seemed like he was always held in high regard so I was surprised when they let him go. Anyway if this is true he could come up against them on September 27th.

Brilliant player when in form and a great attitude, needs to pass it more and put in a tackle though.

Came on for Peterborough today after they went 3-0 down at home to Barnsley. They got back to 3-3 after that but have now conceded a fourth.

They also let (the at the time outstanding) Houghton go. So its not the end being let go by this team.

Kearns was involved in the build-up to Peterborough's equaliser today. Hopefully he'll get his first start soon. Very classy player.

Uh-oh, the OWC will be up in arms about us tapping up young catholics.....

“I think it was two years after that that Seán rang up – it was coming towards the end of my last season at West Ham – and said would I be interested in coming to represent the Republic.

“Once I got off the phone, I made my decision straight away, given what he said about the setup and what he thought of me, and what way he felt I could fit into the team.

“If it hadn’t been for Seán, I probably wouldn’t have even bothered switching.”

But hopefully they read the full article and realise that he had sent off a request 2 years previous.

“I sent a request away at U17 level to represent the Republic. It was coming up to the U17 Championships and it was getting quite close and I didn’t think everything would be cleared in time. but mustn't of gone through all the motions (i.e letter from IFA and passport, all sent in by FAI.

So he had expressed a desire to play for ROI before McCaffrey called him.

They have lost all six league games and one in the league Cup to Reading conceding 17 goals in those games, creating very little at the other end, yet he is not deemed worth a shot, at present in any event. He had shown well in pre season. I watch Peterborough sometimes and have seen some cameo sub apps of Kearns during which he has been bright and creative, the fans like what little they have seen. Strange one I thought.

Wow. Some of the fans are quite passionate about Kearns' lack of involvement in the first team. As one of them stated, a move to a League One side which plays decent, attacking football will be to his benefit in the long-term, which is better than trying to satisfy the needs of Darren Ferguson should he have little faith in putting Kearns into a side that can't do much worse.

With all the talk of Darragh MacAnthony trying to build a good side, they sold one of their better players, Paul Taylor, to Ipswich. A good Championship goalscorer is pretty difficult to find and this guy bagged quite a few last season. Where's the ambition in that type of sale, fair price or not?

I'd also note the lack of any Manchester United loanees in that P'Boro squad. Fergie Jr. has picked up his fair share of these over the past few years. He had Wotton and Tunnicliffe last season, not to mind getting Danny Welbeck gifted to him upon taking the Preston job. Difficult to judge what the issue is this season.

Anyway, they're a struggling side and although a dog-fight brings it's fair share of experience, some positivity in performance and results will surely help develop Kearns.

Ferguson said this season he wanted to build a young side of non loan players and for them to improve together at the club over a period, rather than the loans which have been prominent in his reign up to that. He bought from Stevenage, Crawley, Gillingham, Dundee, Southend in this endeavour and whether he has no eye for a player or the lads he bought simply got a bad start and collective doubt about the step up set in, its hard to tell. What is certain is its a mess and a steep climb ahead now. Ferguson is wedded to a midfield diamond set up and Kearns hasn't found a berth in that thus far, some fans feel this formation doesn't suit Kearns, I don't really know enough to say. Also the loan option has been taken off the shelf again in recent days, so we will see. Some fans hope this means Robbie Brady is coming ... nothing like a bit of delusion to bring a smile.

With an Irish owner, Ferdinand and Frecklington there also, Id rather not see them 3-0 down after half an hour every week, hammered into League One by Halloween. Could be on the cards though.

Well he's been injured all season and much of last. I'd imagine Ferguson doesn't want to send a player lacking match fitness into games that could be crucial for their survival on the league.

Wimbledon and York even at 1-1 at the end of the first half in their FA Cup Replay. Kearns and Oyebanjo starting on either side of a three man midfield (Kearns on the left, Oyebanjo on the right). Two two combined really well early on with Kearns going down the left channel and putting in a cross...Oyebanjo should've scored with a diving header and put it over. Oyebanjo also had a great effort from maybe 25 yards that Brown palmed over (though York scored from the resulting corner, I think it was). Kearns has been in charge of York's set pieces, including the one that led to the goal (Brown palmed it in to his own goal under pressure from Carlisle). He also hit the bar with an excellent effort from roughly the same distance as Oyebanjo's. Kearns been doing some good work on the left, can't say Oyebanjo has been on the ball as much but has done alright when he has (he is technically a fullback).

EDIT: The second half (and added time) wasn't great in terms of the actual football being played, especially by York. Oyebanjo had to move to right full back after York had a man sent off (which was in the first half).

Yeah, was and remains transfer listed officially but must have delivered a fine pre season.

I was at this match today, and was very surprised to see him named ahead of three more recent midfield signings at the club. He played his way into the game, he did give it away twice or three times early on a little cheaply but kept going and won the crowd over nicely. Played some good passes later on including putting a guy through and chased and harried very well all game. His energy levels were admirable, and one piece of chasing down late on drew applause from all around the ground, first the full back, made him rush his ball to the center half and then got after the center half and forced him to go back to the keeper and then managed to make the keeper kick for touch, in the hot sun after 80 mins or so. Peterborough made two substitutions, both in midfield, seeing two of the senior pros at the club taken off ahead of Kearns, which was great to see.

Only one game, and he remains available for transfer but hopefully he can keep his place in the side and show what he can do as he never really got a run of starts at the club.

Chesterfield managed by ex-Sligo manager Paul Cook, who'd have seen a lot of him at Dundalk. It's unfortunate, I thought Kearns had the talent to do well at least at League One level, hopefully he still does.

I really thought he'd hold his own at Championship level but it never worked out for him. I'd expect Carlisle to be easily promoted next season, however, and he's still only 22 or so.
