Yeah, I suppose with win over Yeats utd - top of Sligo/L league tussle, Boyle should be in a good position.
Although relatively early -- would you predict quarter-finalists?
I had a look at the draw and make it out as:
Manulla/NUIG v Cartron/Dysart
(erris/oughterard)/Urluar v Mervue/Castlerea
Salthill/Moore v (erris/oughterard)/Hibs
S&F/(St Bernards/Ballinrobe) v (Ballymote/Ballina)/(MCR/City)
Ballinasloe/Achill v Boyle/Barna
(Renmore/Cloonfad)/(Westport/Corrib R) v (Carbury/East)/(Corrib C/Coolera)
Roscommon/Moyne Villa v Oranmore/Cliffoney
St Johns/Athenry v St Pats/Manor
so my guess at quarter finalists would be:
Manulla
Mervue
Hibs
City
Ballinasloe
Corrib Rangers
Roscommon
Athenry
care to make a guess yourself??

Cheers Mate
Don't really know enough to give informed tip but seriously thanks for the above listing.
Personally I would like to see Castlerea and Boyle go through [I'd agreed that Mervue and Ballinasloe are favourites]. I would go along with fancing City. I wonder if Carbury might overcome Corrib Rangers?
My club is St Johns so obviously, whilst Athenry are big favourites, I am hoping for a big upset here. It's like the game will be played on grass at Cuilbeg, Carraroe the lads are looking forward to it already.

Shield Result:
Moy Villa 1 Ballygawley Celtic 3
pitch was barely playable and hardly even marked. dont think Moy Villa were too interested in it to be honest, they only had 10 players. Ballygawley butchered at least 3 2 on 1, one 3 on 1 and even a 4 on 1. If we had our shooting boots on it could've been 8 or 9 although Moy Villa could have got 1 or 2 more.

Salthill/Moore v (erris/oughterard)/Hibs
S&F/St Bernards v (Ballymote/Ballina)/City
Ballinasloe/Achill v Boyle/Barna
Cloonfa)/(Westport/Corrib R) v Carbury/(Corrib C

Cheers Longshanks, yeah looking forward to the game, going to take place at new Astro Turf in Cleveragh, should suit our more passing game.
Saw that Athenry, got beat by Milford in Donegal, they are now just in this Cup -- don't think they are in running for Premier in Galway.
Our lads are mostly kids, win or lose, it should be a good experience anyways. We have lost a few key guys due to emigration in last weeks but squad still strong enough.
Glad to see Carbury get through -- along with Ballymote in FAI Junior.

Connaught Shield Quarter-Final
Saturday 21st January
Venue: Cleaveragh Astro-turf pitch
Leitrim Villa 2 - 4 Ballygawley Celtic (aet)
At a cold and windy Cleaveragh Sports ground in Sligo, Leitrim Villa
put up a gutsy but ultimately unsuccessful challenge against Premier
League outfit Ballygawley Celtic in the quarter-finals of the
Connaught Shield. After an even start, Ballygawley took the lead on 20
mins with an unfortunate own goal. Leitrim battled back strongly
however and equalised shortly after through an indirect free kick from
Niall Beirne, then took the lead shortly after following a smart
finish from Eunan Treacy. Just before half time, Ballygawley were
awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Mark Chandler,
allowing Leitrim Villa to go into the break 2-1 up. Following the
restart, it was a nip and tuck affair, with both sides creating
chances until Ballygawley got their equaliser with less than 20 mins
to go. 2-2 remained the final score until full time, with the match
going into extra time. Early into the first ten minutes of extra time,
Ballygawley score their third goal and added a fourth in the second
period. Great all round performance by Leitrim, in a match that could
have gone either way, and we wish Ballygawley the best of luck in the
next round. Next match scheduled is away to Carrick Town on the 29th,
with a 2pm kick-off.
Leitrim Villa team: Mark Chandler, Luke Donnellan, Conor O'Brien, Gino
McPartland, Stephen Sheeran, Niall Beirne, Niall Maxwell, Rafa
Numancek, Brian Gilroy, Alan Gaffney, Eunan Treacy. Subs used: John
Farrell form Brian Gilroy, Luke McTiernan for Alan Gaffney, Enda
Maxwell for Niall Maxwell.

athenry beat st johns 4-0 . What was a good game was spoiled by a refs decision to send off one of the st johns players for nothing. Said it was for violent conduct but even the athenry player said that he didnt touch him(fair play to a sporting athenry team) Was 0-0 after half an hour when red card was given but was not a contest after.
Best of luck to Athenry.

Dunno yet Southern Red, when the updated Shield draw was released the quarters were down for the 18th/19th Feb and the semis for the 7th/8th April, but as you can see there has not been too much heed passed to them so far.

I'd imagine they'd stick to the proposed dates for the Cup as there is no connacht involvement in the FAI and only Roscommon are still in Oscar Traynor

Ballymote beat City 4-2 aet.
In the Connacht Cup fourth round it was high drama all the way at Brother Walfrid Park with the clash of two of the Super Leagues big guns. Ballymote Celtic with their youthful blend of talented players was at home to the much more experienced and successful City United. But Cup football as we all know sees reputations count for nought but still City started in stunning form with a goal each from top marksmen Keith Nibbs and Gareth Kelly giving them a two lead at the halfway mark and to the large crowd it looked like game set and match. But the second half held its own shocks ten minutes gone and Glen Mc Cormack of City already on a yellow card fouled Niall Brennan in the area Mc Cormack got his marching orders from referee Paul Kilcoyne and Brennan blasted home past Tony Clarke in the city goals and it was game on. Then on sixty five minutes another rush of blood to the head seen the very talented Gareth Kelly give away a needless penalty and he was next to receive his marching orders city down to nine men and Niall Brennan duly dispatched his second penalty to level the scores. From the restart Clive Sommers made a lunging challenge on Stephen Ross leaving referee Paul Kilcoyne with no option but to dismiss him and this left City with a mountain to climb. The game went into extra time and in the second period Gerry Brennan and Stephen Ross hit two devastating strikes to clinch a fifth round place for Ballymote Celtic on the nineteen of February to either Straide Foxford of Mayo or Dynamo Blues of Galway just reward for the battling Celts.

I'd give Ballinaloe(sorry Badker, kiss of death) a big shout..........
semis look like:
NUIG/Dysart v Mervue V Salthill v Athenry
Ballinasloe v Moyne V S&F v Westport
and I think the first semi has home advantage in the final
Westport would have to win 3 away ties to be Champions, Athenry have all the pedigree and would be worthy favourites, but again they've to negotiate 2 away ties to get to the final

I would have to agree Longshanks,If Ballinasloe can get past westport I think they will go on to win it out, I don't think Athenry are the force they were last year, Mervue are going strong with an impressive win over iorras but they did not look great against Castlerea,

Athenry beat Mervue at the weekend. looks like they had all the old guard back. They will surely have their full squad available for the remainder of Connacht cup. They have to be hot favourites again this year. how many titles will this be for the current team if they win it? really surprised at their league form, they have obviously not shown much interest this year. Westport could have a good chance also
