Local papers today reporting that the plan for the new upgraded N11 is for it to go through all or part of Ferrycarrig Park. Mick Wallace is already quoted as saying that, having spent 6 million on the complex, it will happen over his dead body.
Don't think there is money available for it at the moment so probably only a long-tern threat. Interesting point made by Mick that he reckons that 3,000 people use the place each week.
Most people around Wexford know that there is no need for a motorway to Rosslare any way. All that is needed is an Enniscorthy by-pass.

Haven't read the local papers yet, I've heard about it tho. i agree this could be a very long term threat, would this road be built along with the Enniscorthy by-pass or would it be the next phase of the road after that? Anyway from what I've heard the Enniscorthy by-pass won't happen any time soon. The road is basically point less anyway, they should just upgrade the existing road. Here's a link (http://www.wexford.ie/wex/Departments/Roads/NationalRoadsLiaisonOffice/OilgateRosslareHarbourProject/DetailedMapsOfOilgatetoRosslare/Thefile,18486,en.pdf)
Where is Mick getting the 3000 people from?

If that did ever happen (not that I think it will) what would become of the Youths? There's defo no money out there for a new complex

Thanks for the link, Cornflakes. It's worse than I thought. The middle of the proposed new road is right over the wine-rack in the clubhouse!
Outspoken, as the site is mortgaged (not sure to whom), I presume any compensation would be snaffled up by some bank and they would probably be very glad to get it. Would probably be curtains for us, unless beach football on Curracloe was permitted.

The proposed threat to Ferrycarrig Park by the upgrading of the N11 down to Rosslare Port is now coming to the fore again with a public consultation on the various routes being organised at present by Wexford County Council. At least one of the proposed routes involves building on the existing main pitch in Ferrycarrig Park. A petition has been established to support the retention of Ferrycarrig Park and a link is attached below. If anyone could sign, it would be much appreciated.

Saint, you have me there but the public consultation for the NII upgrade has been proceeded with in any event. I got the impression that the Cork-Limerick upgrade has also survived the new Government approach.

To add to Passinginterest's recent post, the attached video, approx 3.5 minutes, now shows the preferred route for the N11 upgrade from Oylegate to Rosslare. For those who know the ground well, you'll see that it wipes out our second pitch and could easily make our main pitch to be unviable. The smarmy commentary never comments on this, however.
