see that we are playing Millwall in a friendly in mid July in Flansiro.. brings back memories of the time we played Millwall in Mullogher as part of the Dave Savage move in 1994:p

Nice chance for the up and coming Longford firm to front up against world renowned opposition. After apparently smashing Harps all over Ballybofey it's good to step it up a notch.

That's good news, though Gary Cronin has been better than expected standing in for him.

town played well tonight I thought considering we had two different teams in the first and second half. an interesting player from the start was gints friemanis who was on trial with us during the vinny perth era and documentation troubles scuppered the move. All of the new signings played at one stage for us.

town team:hunt, dowling, cronin, deans, hyland, walsh, gilles pie, salmon, cowan,a skelly, gints freimanis. subs: jean biansamba, brady, collins, conlon, thomas crawley, jeff flood, lee, alan mcgreal, morley,l roche, sean skelly. We lost one nil from a conlon error and it was great to see mick lee make his comeback.

Yes as Martinho said Gints Friemes was excellent he's strong quite fast and has an eye for a pass as he showed with a wonderful cross field ball in the second half, he impressed everybody in the stands tbh.

Jean Biansamba didn't get long enough to show what he can do but he looked like he could be a good back up striker.

Don Cowan was amazing again he is IMO the best Town player ever....yes it's very early in his career to say that but he has it all speed, power, strength and a deadly finish and strike he can play at the highest level no doubt.

Conlon made his usual error no doubt hunt would have saved it....but a usually reliable player who disappointed many tonight was jack Morley....he's had a weak 2nd half to the season tbf.

Salmo and walsh were fantastic in midfield and look to be forming a good partnership while Gillespie showed the odd nice touch. Cathal Brady did a good job at right full and made a great goal line clearence.

Millwall were very unimpressive I gave to say and players I expected to shine like bouazza were no existent in the game. We defended brilliantly and chris deans looked like a premiership defender he was top class

had we kept the same starting 11 on for the entire game we would have beat them.

When Don and Aussie went off we were lost for a target man and the second half up until the last 15 was very poor and sloppy but then we started to play again and we should have had a penalty for handball!

On Auusie he will have to be assesed again on Saturday and when the doctor told him he was doubtful he said Im fuc***g playing haha love it

Bit over the top with Cowan there, he's a very good player, but best town player ever is a ludicrous statement to make. We did well tonight, Gints in particular catching the eye, and hopefully we can seal a move for him this time. Not sure about Walsh at all, think he pulled out of a lot of challenges tonight, and would rather Hylo beside Sammo any day of the week, Walsh drifts in and out of games. Thought McGreal had a good touch, but seemed very unfit, and one or two of the players looked useful enough. Ill agree with you, Conlon was poor, and Jacques didnt really get a sniff, but tonight was more about bringing on a few trialists and giving players coming back from injuries a run out than the result. Great to see Mick back again, and hopefully with a bit of luck we can push on for the rest of the season and consolidate our top half place.

seriously? is gints back? he played under 21 with us a few seasons ago and was let go, he signed with pats then, his brother and sister-in-law live local, he played in europe with his old club back in estonia or some where in eastern europe cant remember, think he could have played under age internationally aswell, not sure as it was few years since was chattin him? he is a quality player, it could be seen 3 years ago he was a class act but he was let go then, stupid move, noone who was playing with him at the time could understand it! he is super fit( maybe even a little too much training, he can be injury prone), very fast off the mark and very very techinical, you want him on your team in 5- aside, he doesnt lose the ball...would like to see him in competitive games now...

He wasnt let go, the fai wouldnt clear the paperwork to let him sign for the 1st team, some ridiculoue excuse about us having an unfair advantage if he played for us inthe 1st div so he went and signed for pats

Get real.

Freimanis played for Riga v Bohs in the Intertoto Cup in 2008 and sent in the cross for their winner in Dalymount. Thye had financial problems and he came over here where he was due to sign for Cork under Alan Mathews but they hit money problems and weren't allowed to sign anyone so he came and trained with us. My understanding was that this all happened in the final week of the transfer window and we just missed the boat. He went away and had a trial with Real Betis which came to nothing and returned to Cork and trained under Paul Doolin.

He played for them in a friendly with Waterford in pre-season at Bishopstown and most of the City fans thought he did well but Doolin didn't rate him. He trained briefly with Drogheda before playing for Pats in a friendly against a Chelsea XI. He scored and Jeff Kenna signed him. He started the first two games of the season but was subbed off in each, he then got a fairly bad injury and never played for them again as when he was fit Kenna was gone and Pete Mahon had no interest in him.

He was playing in Latvia until recently.

Yeah as I recall the club thought they could sign him outside the transfer window as he was a free agent but under the rules the player had to have been released in the previous transfer window which he hadn't been and the club missed the boat. He was around for a while training and played a couple of friendlies and in the u21s according to the post above, to keep himself fit and then the following season (2009) he signed for Pats, I presume Alan Gough didn't show any interest in him before he signed for Pats but I don't know.

Oh, and outspoken, it was only a friendly, calm down a bit with the superlatives!

Friemanus is living in Longford now too apparently so it would be great to sign him.
