UCD beating Villareal 3-2?

Anyone know anything about that?

UCD gave away 2000 free tickets for it. Truth. Good idea too.

Nah, the free tickets were rescinded. Dunno what happened, but ended up looking fairly bad for us. Someone fecked up, I think. There were about 700 at it; lots of Spanish students.

We won 4-3 in the end. Amazing stuff. Their keepers flapped at four crosses and we scored four times. We played really well though and deserved the win. So this year, we've beaten Galway and Drogheda (duh), the league leaders and now a Champions' League team. Don't do middle ground, us!

oh right - i hadnt heard about the rescission. Who and what was the objection i wonder??? Seemed like a perfectly good idea to me. Congrats on the win in Europe by the way - always nice!

Dunno; maybe Platinum 1 were setting the price and objected. Or maybe free tickets were never the plan and someone sent that out in error. Either way, I don't care! :p

Dunno who got theirs; didn't hear. Capdevilla played the first half; Senna and Nilmar played the second. Didn't really recognise many of the names tbh, but I think a full squad was expected. They maybe had a mix of first team and stiffs in each half.

O'Conor, Leahy, Boyle and AN Other scored for us (apparently an own goal, but there's no ogs at UCD games). Their first was a ridiculous deflection. One of the other two was a super goal after the lad kept going despite being tackled at least three times. Hope to get highlights at some stage.

Absolutely. And on that, has a LoI side ever beaten a La Liga side before? I'm sure someone fluked it in the past, but can't think of anyone off hand.

BonnieShels
16/07/2011, 11:45 PM
Claim it as a first. Can't think of anyone and I'm sure it would have been etched on all our memories if it had happened as a retort for a Barstooler.

We should've beaten Depor... nearly never bulled a cow as someone here said recently.

Really? You think friendlies would matter in that argument?

No I doubt they would.

Point I was making more than anything is that if an LOI side had beaten Spanish opposition before we would know all about it.

Anyone going to Drogheda on Tuesday to see MK Dons? Shaun Williams is eligible to play for them now and they've got Jay O'Shea on trial.

what kinda team did Villareal play? Heard they had a full squad, barring Rossi.

Villarreal CF starting XI: Diego Lopez, Marchena, Capdevila, Mario, Joselu, Bardas, Ruben, Cani, Kiko, Borja Valero, Bruno.

They changed the whole team at half-time except for Ruben with Cazorlo, Senna, and Nilmar really upping the pace for them. UCD brought on all of their subs bar the sub keeper. I was doing commentary and it's fair to say that all semblance of balance was lost in the last 10 minutes as I basically went nuts.

Bray drew 1-1 with Liverpool reserves tonight. 6 of Liverpools starting team were u-18 players. So much for Pat Devlin promising a few first teamers.

He never once promised any first teamers. I was listen to the interiew live on eastcoast fm two sundays ago and he said Daglish would defo be there and was hoping he would bring a few first teamers with him, he promised nothing what so ever.

On the game itself, Bray were the better side in the first half and should have been a couple up. 2nd half was killed by all the subs made by Bray (9 in total i think). The standard of the Liverpool team bar a few players wasn't great, i was expecting a lot more from them being honest. I reckon our A Championship side would give them a good game. There 2 wingers though were lightening fast and caused a few problems near the end

Wasn't so much a promise more he said he was confident they were bringing first team players.

He said Kenny was defo coming over and hoped that he would bring a few first teamers but because they were in the far east wasn't sure. Can't blame him for anything in that. Rumours flying around were that Gerrard, Mireles, Henderson and Reina were all coming over, turned out not to be true

So, according to this, Waterford are better than Bray. I take back everything I said about First division teams surviving in the Premier.

Sligo Rovers legends bet Manchester United legends 4-1 in the Showgrounds today in Gerry Carr's testimonial. Eddie Annand, Paul Cook, Padraig Moran and Karl Wilson (played with Carr at Coventry) got Rovers goals. Peter Davenport scored for Utd.

Bohs have sent a request to the FAI to allow us to cancel Shels on tuesday and play Everton instead in a friendly with Everton bringing over a largely first choice squad..

edit - game confirmed against Everton on Monday at 7.45pm. They are bringing their first team. Congrats to the club on taking advantage of the disruption and getting this done.

I think they just called them and asked to be honest tcm. We did play a version of them a few years back iirc so there may be some relationship there alright.

call the club Eamo. Its short notice as far as games go so you should be okay for tickets but just call to be on the safe side. Capacity is actually approximately 4000 (as opposed to the 3000 figure mentioned in the EFC article) so you should be alright.

Shame, ground with such history falling to pieces. Happened to see today the GAA are to build a new 25,000 seater stadium off the M50, pity that sort of infrastructure wasn't put into the league by the FAI.
