I know it isn't common to post condolences in this section, as it get's very club specific.

However for those of us of a certain age, Philip Greene was the voice of Irish football. I dunno how many times I remember his reports when leaving the Brandywell on a Sunday afternoon or coming back from an away game in the 1980s and 1990s.

He really was a legend.

He was in me hole, a legend. Shams to the marrow and made little attempt to be anyway neutral when commentating on them. Told a story against himself on the Late Late where someone told him they tuned into a match versus pats to hear Philip saying 'it's two all to Rovers'.

Anyway, another part of my youth gone. RIP, Philip.

LOI football has lost an icon. Excellent person, always time to chat and a true LOI man. I hope tributes pour in and one certain stadium has a stand named after him.

He just had a lovely radio voice, and I'm so pleased I can remember his broadcast from the late 70's-mid 80's. They were special times, no mobiles, teletext, obv no internet either, one source of getting your away game update in those days. Rte radio one, and no one did it better than Phillip Greene.
