Guys its a disgrace to be beaten and not make an honest effort to win this trophy fairplay to carrick to show great ambition, why limerick entered it i dont know, i hate to say because im a season ticket holder but why such a lack of respect was shown for a trophy.

Judgement call simple as that. Risk players getting injured having played Friday night, Monday night this Thursday and next Monday or rest them Monday and insure they aren't injured. Limerick played understrength teams in the other two games also.

Over the past number of years Carrick Utd. have played League of Ireland opposition and have never looked out of place. Limerick would have been prepared for Monday nights clash, given Carrick's away win over Cork City and would have prepared accordingly.
Their propensity to hoof the ball, allowing for the conditions and especially in the first half, hardly helped and it looked as if the junior side were more intent on keeping the ball on the ground.

Having beaten Cork City, away, and Limerick it would seem that there is'nt a major gulf between the reserve teams of both clubs and us
.

Fixed that there for ya before you go OTT.

Having beaten Cork City, away, and Limerick it would seem that there is'nt a major gulf between the first division and the top teams in Junior football.
One might say that beating Cork was a one off but to then win against another LOI side disproves this.

Good luck with that

Given the facilities and the attraction of LOI football one might expect there to be a major difference between both standards.
Obvoiusly the standard, as one might expect, is higher at first division given the professional nature of the game at that level and if these teams were to regularily meet you would expect the better resourced teams to come out on top.
The point being that the difference is not huge and one off games between sides have proven this to be the case.

Well done to Carrick and all but to say there isnt a big gulf because of that one game is a bit much.

Barry Ryan,John Frost,Paddy Purcell,Corey Tracy,Jeffrey Judge,Paudie Quinn,Shane Tracy,Peter Hynes and Stephen O'Flynn all didnt start that game Paudie and Shane came on but if the full team ahd started i get the feeling it would have been a far different game.

Thats not carricks fault if limerick had no interest in the competition dont enter it , it would have been great to see limerick winning.

Whats that even go tto do with what i said?

Of course i wanted to win it but im not too upset that wed idnt the league is way way way more important.

What im saying is it hardly reflects on how strong or weak the 1st division is how a reserve team does in this cup. Im sure Carrick would do well in the 1st division but i dont think they would be as good as Limerick or Cork in it.

Given that Shane is injured now I'd say Scully's selection was vindicated. If that had been Frost/Paddy/Judge it goes from being a bad loss to a potentially ruinous one.

It was great to see Limerick win back in 06 but equally why shouldn't Limerick use the competition to get extra games for their fringe players? Ultimately that's where the interest in the competition lies for the senior sides. The fact is that most years it's enough for senior teams to win without breaking out their big guns, this year Carrick bucked that trend. Fair play to them but personally I hope that we enter again next year and use it for the same purposes as this season.

Also I'm aware that we put out a strong side in the 06 decider but we weren't in the midst of 4 games in 10 days then.

I think Shane is a key player. Hope he is fit for Monday.

I was under the impression we won't see him for a while?
