[MOD EDIT: Split from here (http://foot.ie/threads/149479-Attention-Deficit-Disord...-ooh-look-a-squirrel%21), and ultimately from here (http://foot.ie/threads/1-Greetings).]

Better that than a rub of the relic (occasioned, no doubt, by the absence of a sex advice forum. Very remiss of you, Adam, not to act on that excellent suggestion. :))

Seriously, though, I only stumbled across this site a couple of years ago and I was surprised to see that it's ten years old this year. Any celebrations planned to mark the event? On or offline?

This thread only exists by the skin of it's teeth, Dodge deleted it a while back but I was able to find it again in a backup! I actually thought Foot.ie was older so I never really thought about it, definitely open to suggestions. I can't afford freebies anyway, so ye can forget about free pints and sausage rolls. :)

Lets all meet up for fruity drinks wearing our foot t shirts. It will be like a geekier version of a star trek convention.

This board is here for peeps to discuss the possible setup of a general, community-based Irish soccer site by us, the former webmasters and administrators of corkcityfc.com, which will shortly die.

Does anyone else find this oddly sinister?

I'm not a nerd. I'm a post whore/post-whore. (Could a ucd fan help me here, am trying to say am a whore for posting on here not an ex prostitute or some one who mails naughty pictures in our postal system so which is grammatically correct of the above?) So I would be up for celebrating the 10th birthday.

Rarely, if ever, have I seen a more misplaced and mistimed post.
Well I couldn't agree more with ya.

As long as I dont have to jump out of a cake or do anything more degrading than teaching you all how to drink proper jaggerbombers (with the vodka) then I'm up for it.

Not exactly celebrating the ten years, and more along the lines of marking the occasion, but what about a few special features between now and the rest of the year? Something like a series of Q&A with legends of the game (international, league of Ireland, journalist/broadcaster etc), or a few high profile guest bloggers? Or a photo of the month/year competition (a one-off, with shiny medals as prizes!) that best encapsulates football in Ireland.

Just to get the ball rolling...

A proper Jagerbomb with the vodka... Please do go on and explain this wonderful concoction you harpy.

We could all go for a few in... guess where...

anyway happy birthday foot!

A proper Jaggerbomb for me is: measure of vodka, add some red bull drop the jagger and down it. If your really on a mission to get loaded make it a double vodka and put in a pint glass. Fun.

I drank traditional bombs one night, all night, and consequently will never drink one again.

Them bombs are a disaster too.

Does that ten years include the phootball site?

dahamsta
12/04/2011, 4:07 PM
I think phootball.com was a precursor to Foot.ie that ran in parallel to the Cork City site before the contract was killed.

"Foot.ie" pops up less than a month after (http://foot.ie/threads/205-quot-The-Banner-quot-message-for-Neil?highlight=foot.ie) the Greeting thread, which would suggest this was Foot.ie from the start.

EDIT: No I'm wrong, it started as phootball.com (http://foot.ie/threads/2). Can't find an explicit mention of the first appearance of Foot.ie, but here's some Foot.ie Firsts:

First Foot.ie (or phootball.com) spam (http://foot.ie/threads/30).
First "Can I have a forum for? (http://foot.ie/threads/35)"
First post by A face (http://foot.ie/threads/38) (who, bizarrely, put his then username"A face in the crowd" in the title of every post!)
First moderators (http://foot.ie/threads/39).
First "Can I be mod? (http://foot.ie/threads/45)"
First poll (http://foot.ie/threads/56).
First "sorry for screwing the site (http://foot.ie/threads/87)". So many to follow, so many...
First complaint about avatars (http://foot.ie/threads/88). Again, so many...
First attempt to recruit writers (http://foot.ie/threads/92). Continues to this day!
Off Topic (http://foot.ie/threads/139) appears.
First ban (http://foot.ie/threads/159)?

Where you involved with Hoof! at all dahamsta? That used to be a pretty good forum way back in the day.

dahamsta
12/04/2011, 4:49 PM
I did used to host the website but I didn't think Hoof! had a forum?

Joe (http://foot.ie/members/7-joe) used to run Hoof and he set up Foot.ie with me after the Cork City site, but he hasn't been posting for a good while.

I definitely recall a forum.. maybe it was just linked from the site? One of the first really busy LOI forums that I remember anyway.

So is anyone having a 10th birthday party for Foot.ie tomorrow? I'm in Dublin tomorrow but it's work rather than play, so I'll be toasting it quietly in the Franciscan Well in Cork instead tonight.

If no-one's organised anything, we should try and do something in a week or few. I may have to insist it's held in Cork though, I think we've moved on enough from the "Dublin Bias" rants to be able to handle it!

Sorry I didn't do it meself, Mrs dahamsta is close to bursting atm so I'm a tad distracted... :)
