On tonights show we have Mr Words Damien Richardson, Mr Pats Richie Sadlier and Mr Walk John Giles.

Great to see Giles on it. He may not be too familiar with the players but I'm enjoying him on it and I'm sure it appeals to the barstoolers to see him on it.

How many more managers are going to use other teams budgets as an excuse for losing. Some teams have bigger budgets, get on with it and stop worrying about what everyone else is spending.

Giles did well.

Pity they couldn't continue in the same vein as the Roddy Collins segment - i.e. cover each team once, as a means of at least half-covering the First Division . . . ?

Naw Ped-ped, none of you deserve coverage coz you aint got Roddy! :p

I actually agree with you that they could do a feature on each club each week.

After watching the part about Roddy it confirms my belief that everyone from Monaghan is a inbred red neck.

Tonights show was poor. Except for the Rovers match all the other games got little air time and little analysis. Then there was far to much gimmicky things (finger puppets & Roddys thing was okay but to long) and a good chunk of the show went to the national team, which gets plenty of coverage elsewhere. We are now at a stage where the league is struggling to get air time in its own prime time show.

I'd love to time it and see how many minutes are actually highlights of the games. Out of the.....say 50 minutes of the show (60 mins minus ad breaks?), I wonder is even 10 minutes actual footage of games. It's a show on LOI, keep it to LOI. Get rid of all other crap, cut it down to only two analysts and show more footage.

Also, the cameraman for the Dundalk game was a joke. Ball was almost never in shot. Even though they had more than one camera in the Showgrounds, they never showed a replay of the Twigg claim - all you could see was him going down, no more detail.

All that said, it showed Limerick top of Division 1, so it was the best show ever.

Would agree with most of what you say but can see the angle MNS are going for. By having the bigger Pundits on the show and spending more time focusing on the International side, they're hoping to get people who wouldn't normally watch MNS to tune in. If it boosts viewership figures plus gets a few people to maybe attend LOI games, then it would be worth it. Not sure it will achieve either mind you but can understand the rationale behind it.

strange show last night it looked that they were struggling to fill the last quarter of the show you would nearly forget that they had 450 minutes of footage to use, the international thing is only to make the new super special guest feel a bit more comfortable it wouldn't do much for me.The TV3 show was poorly made but it was all about the games and not about gimmicks and ego trippers like shoddy.

Yeah, they should have Daniel McDonnell in studio, tbf.

Or alternatively they should not discuss the national team at all, considering they're kinda covered by . . . every other media outlet already.

Paper Talk doesn't fit in to the show at all. Same with stuff about the national team Bad move. Otherwise - good show.

Great to see Giles on it. He may not be too familiar with the players but I'm enjoying him on it and I'm sure it appeals to the barstoolers to see him on it.

To be fair to Giles he did actually attend the Bohs match he covered. My previous concern about "celeb" analyts was that they would give views based on the 5 minutes coverage shown. If Giles et al are going to attend games every week (maybe even outside Dublin shock, horror :o) then they can be an addition. If its good enough forGilesy maybe a few barstoolers may venture along (as long as weather is good, corrie is not on and the pubs are closed of course ).

Agree with most that there is too much crap and not enough highlights on MNS. Even allowing for RTE trying to broaden the appeal I think they have diluted the coverage too much. also think any more than two "experts" is too much.

A documentary of this season for Monaghan would be a good view. The joy, the tears, the fights and the ****e talk all rolled up in an hour.

Roddy in Louis Copeland was hilarious, I could just picture the security gaurd shadowing him around the store.
As for the footage of our game against shams, what a joke.

I enjoyed the show in general, the points made about Roddy from the panellists were spot on (to forget the showboating and get some substance), but the angle of having a club profiled each week has been brought up on this forum time and again, yet we forget, the person behind the show is English and desperately trying to ape that abomination on Saturday mornings on sky tv. Instead of going our own way, we yet again suck from the hind teat of what is worse in the motherland. There is so many positives to be taken from the chance of this show, but it's suffering. no problem with the international team being mentioned, we're all Irish anyway.

Didn't see that, but since when do Longford have a match programme? I got what was basically a pamphlet of advertisements last year. Nothing by way of articles, previews, etc - just a sticker on the front and the teamsheet to show what game it was for.

It was on it last season.. we do have a match programme but the budget for it is quite low at present.. if there was more people going to matches in flancare the budget may increase.. strangely enough in waterford over the years I was up there there wasnt even a program issued on two or three occasions.. strange..

Far bigger issues in the LOI than match programs tbf
