Not long to go until the season starts.

How are preparations going for clubs? No need to ask who people think are favourites to go straight back down. We will certainly give it our best to beat the drop.

Celtic must surely be in with a shout of competing for the title along with westport, Iorrais & Ballina.

Thoughts?

Emigration may have to be factored in this year on predictions.

Are many clubs being effected by players having to travel for work?

INVER seems the first club to have to pull out, could this be the start of a common trend?

Your source seems to no more than everyone else in the ML.... 1 week before all leagues are to start, no one has 100% confirmation of fixtures or the start of the leagues. Its said to be the 10th but heard it also could be the following weekend.

Is the fixtures being run by rumour or what is going on here.
It can`t be that hard to get the list for the season or can it with who are in command.

entertaining game 1 all at ht (k.costello for cmorris, og for erris). second half was 10 mins in when claremorris captain niall kitching got sent off for a second booking, claremorris then took the lead through a derek glynn peno. erris put the pressure on but got caught on the break and glynn rounded a defender and the keeper to slot his second home (3-1 cmorris). cmorris manager had been sent from the dugout at the stage for giving the ref (m halligan) a piece of his mind, erris got one back in injry time (well offside) but claremorris heid on. good win.:D

Five Star Performance Blow Manulla Away

13/04/2011
Castlebar Celtic 5-0 Manulla
A RESULT that serves due notice of Castlebar Celtic’s intent in the first year back in the Mayo Super League for their first team after a spell at national level. Manulla can argue that the 5-0 scoreline is a tad harsh, that the sending off of David Gallagher at 3-0 was definitely harsh, but what was in little doubt was the difference in class between the sides. It is to be expected that Celtic, coming down from the A League, might have an edge in that department, but at times it was a wide gap and, once Gallagher was sent off, they were lucky to keep it to five.
The irrepressible Stevie Gavin linked superbly with Ronan O’Boyle up front, Andy Neary and Ger O’Boyle provided a wonderful dynamic down the left flank, and players like Declan Flynn and James Minogue give Celtic a solid look at the back. Flawless they were not and Manulla had a couple of decent chances in the first half. But when Stevie Gavin made it 2-0 on 29 minutes, you sensed the game was up for Paul Large’s side. Nine minutes earlier they took the lead when Gavin was taken down in the box by a combination of Cillian McGlade and Damien Coleman. James Minogue came forward to slot home the kick with ease. The second goal was a thing of beauty. Ger O’Boyle’s left-side corner found Gavin just outside the box, and he took the ball on his chest before volleying into the corner of the net. Manulla nearly pulled one back before the break when Jonny Griffin’s well-hit free from the left corner had Gary Byrne in trouble, but he managed to claw a hand to it to take it off Roger Clarke’s head. Damien Coleman struck a free-kick just wide, but most of the traffic was in front of James Jennings’ goal. Celtic made it three on 56 minutes when they clinically exploited Manulla’s inability to clear. It was that man Gavin who pounced on the error, and when it seemed like he was going to finish, he squared unselfishly for Ronan O’Boyle to fire home.
Nine minutes later, Manulla were down to ten men when David Gallagher picked up his second yellow card. It was extremely harsh. Celtic’s Stevie Ryan appeared to foul Gallagher, but referee Pat Foley thought otherwise, and the second yellow compounded the surprise of the Manulla players.
But it didn’t affect the result, merely the margin. Three became four on 73 minutes. Gavin’s corner was headed goal wards by Ryan only to be blocked by Shane Moran. But it only fell to Ioseph Reilly who struck the ball with venom into the roof of the net. Two minutes later and it was 5-0. Initially Reilly squared for Gavin, whose header was superbly saved by James Jennings. But Manulla failed to clear their lines and Gavin slipped in the right channel and dinked the ball across for Ronan O’Boyle to head home. It meant Gavin was involved centrally in each of the five goals and he set up new signing Theron Coghill with an adroit little flick to put the ex-Ballyheane man through but Jennings saved with his feet. There’s enough of a warning in 5-0 anyway. Celtic are back. Celtic G Byrne; O Cunningham, D Flynn, J Minogue, G O’Boyle; C Rowland, A McDonnell, S Ryan, A Neary; S Gavin, R O’Boyle.
Subs used: I Reilly for Rowland (h/t); T Coghill for McDonnell (76 mins); J Fallon for Gavin (83 mins)

26/04/2011
Castlebar Celtic 5-0 Ballina Town
WE don’t have a word in English (or Irish) for a 5-0 win, but the Spaniards have something more specific than ‘thrashing’ or ‘hammering’. Barcelona’s whitewash of Real Madrid last November had players and fans waving their hands in the air with fingers spread in celebration of the five goals – la manita, or ‘little hand’. If last Sunday’s result is anything to go by – Castlebar Celtic’s second 5-0 win in three games – the Hoops mean business. As children played on a nearby slide, their fans had something to cheer besides the weather inside ten minutes at Celtic Park. Ballina goalkeeper Emmet Peyton, playing his first Super League game of the season, advanced bravely to deny Ioseph O’Reilly, but from the resultant corner, Gerard O’Boyle caught the ball with a super volley. The left back’s delight was clear as the ball hit the net, though the word from a few Celtic legends was that Stevie Gavin got the last touch. Six minutes later, O’Reilly bested Peyton in a one-on-one situation, slipping the ball to the ’keeper’s left. Add another six minutes, and – incredibly – Celtic were three up. Alan McDonnell played the ball from close to the halfway line, Ronan O’Boyle stayed strong in the tackle, and suddenly he was through. It may have been a soft one for Town to concede, but the striker made the most of the opportunity. The red-haired O’Boyle soon had the ball in the net for a second time following a through pass from Gavin, but assistant referee Martin Regan flagged it offside. The first of two memorable – if R-rated – exchanges between the respective managers came soon after, and referee Damien McGrath told both Declan Kilkelly and Alan Gough that they were on their last warning. Ballina had a couple of half chances – a Declan O’Connor free kick and a Ross Kenny shot on the turn – but when the game’s fourth goal came after 32 minutes, it was a second for Celtic’s O’Reilly, who flicked home a cross from the left. The visitors almost got one back on the stroke of half time after Castlebar surrendered possession easily, but Gary Byrne saved after Eugene Gorman and Brendan Lavelle combined. A fifth Celtic score seemed likely on the resumption, but Peyton managed a flying save to keep out Gavin’s snapshot, and then smothered the ball when Martin Owens had a sight of goal. Gavin had a penalty appeal turned down, while O’Reilly limped off to applause from the Celtic bench after a collision. Ross Kenny and Michael Duffy went close as Gough urged his charges to “keep going”, but Celtic scored their final (and perhaps most popular) goal 13 minutes from time. Stephen Jennings got the ball off Malachy McCarron, Gavin’s chip came off the crossbar, and sub Ollie Cunningham netted the rebound. The only threat to Celtic’s victory came when referee McGrath warned Kilkelly that if one Hoops supporter didn’t “shut up”, he would “stop the game”. Assistant manager Harry Jennings was deployed as an emissary and a premature end was avoided. The gauntlet, it’s fair to say, has been thrown down.Celtic G Byrne, M Owens, G O’Boyle, S Ryan, J Minogue, A McDonnell, I O’Reilly, J Fallon, R O’Boyle, S Gavin, A Neary. Subs used: S Jennings for R O’Boyle (63 mins); O Cunningham for O’Reilly (67 mins); K Hopkins for Minogue (78 mins).

Anyone shed any light on the so called "R- rated" exchanges? I heard one version which I find very hard to believe so dont want to say too much, but it allegedly involved a five euro note being thrown on the ground.

Was at the Ballina Westport game on Saturday evening. Westport fully deserved the victory and they should of had more then 2 goals. Was suprised at how poor Ballina were, I know they were missing a few, but so were Westport. First game I've got to go to this year, but was delighted to see so many young players playing for both sides. Wetport had a very talented young lad who contolled the midfield and created a lot. Their goalkeeper was very good aswell, who pulled pff one outstanding save in the second half and has a very good kickout for his age. One of the Ballina centre backs should have been sent off on more then one occasion but was only given a yellow card for the whole match. Was very suprised to see Peyton in goal for them aswell, he did not look like he's fully fit yet. Think Westport have a very good chance to win the cup and league, but Castlebar are the team to beat. Ballina will need a major improvement if they want to win anything.

Watched the full game between Swinford and Iorras Saturday evening. Very strong wind conditions which didn't help either team. Poor enough first half. Iorras first on the score sheet with a sweet free kick from outside the box, didn't really look like scoring for the remainder of the half.
In my own opinion Swinford looked very average with everything going through a 6 "5" full forward who has about as much skill as myself probley. Also poor in the left mid field position and very little coming from the bench. However "Peter Crouch" did score a great header from a well worked ball from the right.
If Iorras are looking to finish in the top 2 or 3 they will have to be finishing these fair to average teams...

I think that Castlebar Celtic honestly have the league in the bag. With the squad they have this year, it is really their league to lose at this stage and we are not even half ways through yet.

Looks like Claremorris and Celtic at this stage but still many twists and turns to come before the League will be decided. Big game for both clubs this weekend but not a title decider by any means.

Absolute cracker tonight in Claremorris finishin 4 4. As a neutral it had it all and both will feel they could have won having both hit the woodwork late on with spectacular efforts. It was agreat advert for the Mayo League. Thaught ref tried to ruin it again sending off two players for nothing. Seen him a few times this season and every time all he seems intrested in doin is taking out his cards instead of doin the sensible thing and talking to the players giving them at least a warning which he should have done tonight. If he was in his local playin poker he wudn show as many cards... Pity for the league Claremorris didnt hold out in the end but a crackin effort to level things up.

Cracking game. I'd hate to be writing the report for The Connaught, but I'll do one here haha Celtic went 1-0 up after 7 mins from a Ronan O' Boyle free kick, expertly placed in the bottom corner after a handball on the edge of the box. Claremorris responded immediately, Brian Gallacher scoring with a glancing header from a Danny Broderick delivery. Moments later they were ahead. The Celtic keeper brought down the Claremorris striker, Glynn?, and the same lad tucked it away with aplomb. Celtic equalized when Ronan O' Boyle followed up Chris Rowlands stinging drive that the keeper spilled to tap in from close range. In between the Claremorris left winger hit the upright with another glancing header. Also, the Claremorris right back was harshly sent off for two bookings. The first appeared to be for obstruction, the second for a nothing off the ball incident. 2-2 at the break.

Celtic took the lead when Danny Broderick somehow headed into his own net under no pressure from Ollie Cunninghams cross. However, as Celtic went for the killer goal Claremorris hit back. After the restart Celtic won a corner, which was cleared and Claremorris broke, eventually allowing Glynn to slip the ball between the Celtic keepers legs. 3-3. However, as seems the norm these days in the Mayo League, the referee decided he wanted in on the drama. Pat Foley sent off Celtics Stevie Gavin for a second yellow, despite the fact the foul appeared to be made by Cunningham. Then Broderick made amends. His free kick taking a big deflection off the Celtic wall before nestling in the bottom corner with the kepper stranded. Both teams were now going for it gung-ho. Claremorris seeking to kill it, Celtic chasing a leveler. Ollie Cunningham hit the bar with a dipping effort before Marty Owens contrived to blaze over with the goal at his mercy. Claremorris also hit the woodwork, Glynn beating Byrne in the Celtic goal but not the goal itself. Then O' Boyle produced the moment of the game. Taking the ball down on his chest, with his back to goal and two defenders on him, he pirouetted and found barely a yard of space before curling a wonderful strike into the far top corner. Another fantastic strike for the forward to complete his hat trick. Claremorris were twice denied on the goal line first by a wonderful tackle from James Minogue and then Byrne produced a fine save. At the death Celtic almost won it. A long ball foreward was headed clear as far as the inrushing Ger O' Boyle 25 yards out. He caught it on the full volley as perfect as is possible and everybody stood and watched as the ball crashed against the junction of post and crossbar and flew away to safety. That was the last action. I'm sure I've left plenty out but its hard to remember everything in such an open game.
