On the show tonight we have Richie Sadlier, The Actual Real Roddy Collins, and a special guest. And of course Con Murphy

They are imbaciles, luckily Ray Houghton, Kenny Cunnigham and Ronnie Whelan will have some cliches to fall back on.
We should have a count for how many times a player is touted as having the ability to 'make it in england'.

love the way houghton only talked about english football and didnt know who owen heary was, probably the leagues longest serving player still playing

Houghton was better than I was expecting, he doesn't know the league but it wasn't as bad as I thought.

The state of paper talk.

terrible show full of cheap gimmicks they should cut out the BS and concentrate on the football some of the games got no time at all but the rubbish like paper talk/fans scope got a decent amount of time.

Missed the first 20 minutes. What did Gavin have to say?

2 shocking penalty decisions in the Bray and Bohs game, and didn't look like a penalty for Dundalk either. Good finish by Twigg for the 3rd (I think, not his header).

a fair bit of party line nonsense about how one club going bust isnt statistically that bad compared to other industry's and other similar guff.

Very good show I thought

The lights were poor at Derry, Bray and Drogheda, not helping analysis of penalties etc, so the less time given to football coverage and more Fanscopes and Made in Irelands and Houghton's goal the better. The paper talk thing was awful though, really truly awful.

I didn't see the thing tonight, but would be willing to give houghton and that a few weeks to see how they get on.

As for why? I would have thought, as already been pointed out, it's all down to money. Why pay 5 or 6 no-marks (this face it anyone who doesn't already follow the league won't know most of the panel), when you can get some more work out the 'personalities' you're already paying a decent wedge. I don't even imagine the idea that they might lend some kind of credibility (to the beloved barstooler) to the thing even came up.

Would they not be paying the likes of Houghton per appearance rather than having a contract? Can't imagine he'd be cheaper than the previous pundits!

I liked it, fair play to RTE. Liked the fanscope and enjoy the good the bad the ugly bit.. makes it better in my opinion!! Roddy is an idiot and annoys me.. him off the show it would be even better!!

Missed the first bit but thought it was a good so-so good that I missed Corrie. And Ray Houghton ha done some research so came across well. Still don't see why that can't show a First Division goals round-up.

I thought it was a good show. Ray Houghton was good, neither patronising or over critical even though there were a lot of player mistakes in all the games especiallly Oman,Murray and Cherrie. What was the point of the Paper Talk piece, nothing to do with L.O.I. We hear enough about Stephen Ireland elsewhere. The fans commentary thing was ok,they copied that from Sky Sports. At least they had fans in the show which they never have. The advantage of having Houghton on is that some non L.O.I fans may have tuned in to see what Ray had to say. The crowds at the Brandywell, Tallaght and Bray looked good. On the first division they should show the goals from one match every week.

Do they have cameras at all the 1st division games?

I'd like to see more 1st division football instead of the filler they provide on MNS.

What a waste of a hour that was maybe 8 minutes of football and full of egos talking kack. FAIreland and Stephen Ireland get enough air without eating into the league of Irelandshow. Fan scope complete riddy. Anyone who does it should be tarred and feathered. They seem to be trying to do a cross between soccer am and motd. I thinking I'll just stick to watching the footb parts on the internet

Wouldn't go quite as far as to say an hour wasted but agree with some sentiments. No harm having the introduction piece about the state of the League but thought it was too dragged out for the bad news story it was (and hardly an optimistic start to the season). As ever Gavin was useless. Thought there was too many panelists for constructive discussion - more buggins turn to speak rather than who had something coherent to say. Houghton did his best but hardly an "expert" on LOI matters so seems unecessasary to me.
Fanzone thing was truely awful, rip off of SKY Sports thing that will just be a long term embarrassment to those involved. papertalk ? What more Stephen Ireland ? What has that clown got to do with Irish football ? (even he claims it means nothing to him) waste of time that should have been devoted to football.

Still think that overall the programme is the best RTE effort the LOI has had but disagree with the (apparently ever increasing) move to a "magazine" type format.

Wouldn't worry about having Houghton on there, the standard of panellist is generally crap anyway and they rarely offer anything really insightful. And is said above there are too many on there so it's a few clichés each and then on to the next bit.

Not enough football, too much talk. Is it the ego of the commentators, producers or hosts that however many years in, this is still the bloody complaint? Same as other seasons, first one will probably be my last.

The fanscope is absolute trash, almost as bad as papertalk.

League of Ireland fans must be one of the toughest audiences about. Years and years of nothing from our Tv networks, now we have a prime Monday night slot to cover LoI and its still a big moan! MNS - Monday Night Soccer, not purely a LoI review so they can mention other football(soccer) related matters even if it is about that cretin S. Ireland. Lets face it maybe there is a lot of padding on the show cause the league highlights may not be that high. No offence to 1st division clubs (Dundalk fans know only too well) but with if all games looked as well attended as Tallaght and Brandywell well they would be covered. On specifics, Ray Houghton and other guests especially J Giles can add somthing to the programme. A (kind of) independant view point might be good particularly when we get to referee bashing. Houghton did ok for a chap with limited knowledge and seemed to have done a bit of homework(i'm pretty sure Paul Cook got a call from him to get a heads up).
I agree that is not a perfect show, but we are a long way off from getting a MOTD, and that isnt nevessarily to do with RTE. Some pundits are better than others and if Roddy stopped trying to play the Dunphy role what he says is not always wrong, Richie Sadlier usually calls it well although he looks as if he is desperately trying not to laugh at Roddy. Fran Gavin should grow a pair but do we really expect him not to tow the FAI line..he has a family to feed too.

I withdraw my previous marks. I doff my cap to my RTE betters for deeming to give us a programme (even if it is part of the National Team contract, and not a bloody favour) - it doesn't matter how crap the show is, I should be grateful there is a show at all.

Basically said that what Brennan's being paid has nothing to do with him, Nutsy or the players, down to the board. Can't wait to see if there's the same reaction when the wages can't be paid.

I only saw a small bit on Monday. Had it in my head that it was on at 8. Surprised when I saw Houghton.
When they started Paper Talk, I thought this could be a good idea....heard the name Stephen Ireland and switched off. The FAI are paying RTE for a league highlights show. I like MNS generally and think it would be good to attract new viewers in the hope that they might attend LoI matches, but I don't think anyone is specifically tuning in for a discussion on Irish (if he hasn't burned his passport yet) players abroad so why bother with it?
