We have had two massive blows from Friday night but its time to get on with the next game straight away. Is Purcell out for next Friday? I still think we can have a good starting 11 come Friday. It may not be our best but it will still be good.

.............................Ryan................. .....

Broughall........Purcell?...McCarthy.....Frost

..........Judge........O'Leary........Quinn.......

..........Breen.......Coughlan.......Hynes.......

Thats still not a bad team. If Purcell is out White will do a job at centre back. I know its only Salthill but for the first game of the season we need to be putting in a good performance more than anything.

Limerick 4-0 Salthill

I reckon:

.....................B. Ryan

C. Tracy*.......Purcell*.........McCarthy...........F rost

....................Judge............O'Leary...... ...............

Coughlan................Quinn..................... ......S. Tracy

...........................Hynes.................. ...................

I'd say Corey Tracy will start if he's available at all, Broughall had a bit of a hard time against Harps.

If Paddy isn't available I could see Calla getting the nod ahead of Peter White.

Shane should get the nod on the left, he did very well when he came on the other night.

I'd expect Hynes to lead the line in the centre while Stevo's out.

I'll go with a nervous but eventually comfy 3-0, Salthill are shocking.

I thought Paddy was out of the Cork game and available for Salthill but could be wrong.

Paddy is suspended for the Cork game but he seemed to be carrying an injury for most of the second half in the Finn Harps game so people aren't sure if he is available or injured. I think that why they put him up front for the remainder of last Friday's game.

Thanks, LK, looking forward to Friday night for my first taste of Limerick FC and LOI football. Hoping to get to Cork away next week as well, if there's any space on the bus for a JCL OOT?

Does anybody think we might see McGann in the side Friday? He was on the bench the other night in Donegal, when Coughlan wasnt. (There may be a reason for Coughlan being absent that I'm not aware of ? )

He was playing with Ireland U18. Scored two goals in a 2-2 draw with Wales.

He scored twice for the Ireland schools team in Killarney that night.

Unfortunately Garbhan hasn't learned how to play in 2 games on the same night at the same time almost 300 miles apart but he is young so he might yet learn that.

The sponsorship always put me off that jersey. Might pick up one of the polo tops though if its the same kit we'll be using this season.

Whats the attitude for ? It was a question, thats all. And one where I had opened myself up for a possibility such as this, at that. I dont live in Limerick, or even in Ireland so didnt know, so I asked.

I am relaxed at all times, B.W.A., too laid back some would say. Could perhaps be a little more motivated in certain areas of life even, some would venture, if pushed into expressing an opinion on the matter.

Anyway, are you going to make me like?

As has been pointed out it was a joke and meant as such. I'd expect Garbhan to be in contention for a starting spot friday night.

Should be handy enough despite the injuries etc. to some of our key players. Early goal and we will wallop them.

Looking forward to seeing the sublime Jackman Park pitch on Friday. Sure will miss it next year...

According to one of the papers when it was first announced Pat O Sullivan said it will be a synthetic grass pitch that will be available to rent and that the club can also use for training. Something similar to what Dundalk has done I presume. Another revenue stream also.

Is there not enough synthetic pitches to rent as it is?

my best count is 14 artifical pitches locally, Delta,Castletroy college,U.L.,Aishling,Fairview,Garryowen RFC,Young Munster,Catholic Institute,Cresent College,Summerville,Villers,L.I.T,Sean Coil, Corbally, if i have missed any i apologies..... the market seems a bit flooded...

Ya I agree there is. If Limerick can use it themselves for training though along with the under 19 team and all the underage teams then I would welcome it. Would mean less maintenence of the pitch too I would think.

Looks well in Oriel Park.

Delta, Castletroy, Fairview, Young Munster, Summerville, Corbally are all good surfaces but are too small for adult 11 aside, can't work on realistic team shape with any of these areas.
UL, Catholic Institute, Villiers, Crescent, LIT are a good size but are hockey pitches and cause more injuries than any other surface.
Sean Choill and Ashling are the only creible options for what I'd imagine Limerick want, add to that the fantastic surfaces planned for UL.

I'd say with the plans to make MF the home of Limerick soccer that the pitch would be used for LDSL finals, underage interleague games, maybe even school competitions or underage internationals and a synthetic pitch - though not maintenance free by a long shot - would be ideal for year-round use.

Gone a bit off topic...

What kind of crowd do ye think lads? Usually a decent one up for the first home game of the season. not the most attractive fixture in the season and the weather is poor so i would say about the 700 mark would be a very good attendance, 500 mark wouldn't be too bad, 400 and below would be poor.

I am hoping with the Markets Field feel good factor and a very decent away point last week we will see a big crowd later and that sustain through the season. I was trying to get home for it but didnt manage it.

468 attendance according to Extratime. Couldn't make it but nice to see they didn't fluff around and beat Salthill comfortably enough - what was the performance like?

limerick 3 salthill 0

salthill prob the worst team iv ever seen play limerick at home they were like a junior team very poor. On limerick IMO they wont be going up this season again i know there is only two games played but AGAIN this season the centre midfield is not strong enough to weak and to young we needed experianced player signed for midfield it was not done. limerick right full woeful he made kelly look good. we seemed to lack ideas in the fianl 3rd.
overall tonight i thought we were poor.

positives P. Quinn looks a very good player
tracey played very well scored two lovely goals
centre halfs looked good but up against nothing
frost did ok

Didn't need to get out of second gear tonight, very comfortable against the poorest team I have seen so far in my short LOI following. Hynes looked good up top, although the 'keeper should have done better for the third goal. Frosty seems decent too - Some nice deliveries sent in off his left peg.

Cork only drawing up at Mervue perhaps provides some hope for next week.

Jofspring

We'll take that tonight. Won't learn much from it but 3 points is 3 points. A few players looked handy enough although it was probably hard to get really into it when the game was over after 60 seconds. Played some nice ball even though not much at the end of it and Hynes held it up well and was strong in the air. Calla and McCarthy didn't have too much to do but both are big strong lads. Waterford dropping another 3 onto the 2 last week and Cork dropping 2 is a bonus also, especially when Corks was against Mervue. We all know how sticky they can be up in Galway though. Big match next week. Don't think a loss would be the end of the world down in Turners as its early days yet but a win would give us a nice start to the season despite the set back of Gary Sheehans injury.

Not the most impressive performance and i agree with Thomas on a lot of what he said but i wouldnt be worrying about going up yet . Its only 2 games in and we can eaisly get going.

We will find it tough if we get stuck in a battle of a match becuase we dont have the strenght but i think that other teams will struggle to stop us when we get playing our football.

We have Corie Tracy,Chris Breen,Paddy Purcell and Steve O Flynn to come in and even Yellow,Peter White and Garbhan Coughlan coming off the bench lastnight shows we have strenght in depth.

Shane Tracy who struggled last year has done very well in the 1st 2 pplayed well and set up leveller in Donegal and played well lastnight.

Corie was on the bsnch just back form injury so didnt start.

Breen starined a groin in warm up so wasnt risked i think.

Paddy had a groin strain so Scully didnt want to risk him seen as he is suspended next week anyway.

Paddy and Chris could have played if needed but no pint riskin them for a match we were always gonna walk through. Breen should be back for Cork and Corie may start in that one.

Edit: Talking to Gary Sheehan lastnight said he should be getting the cat off in 7 weeks and all going well he will be back in 4 months.

Will be like a new signing. At least we know the way the club is run now he will get the very best care while recovering.
