Just to put a football spin on it, this could mean a lot of young lads taking up cricket rather than football?

jeesis trick colour there's a GAA man in you dying to get out! :-) Not enough to succeed and be happy ...others must fail and be wretched to create counterpoint and contrast.

The fastest century in World Cup history. The biggest successful run chase in World Cup history. Against the team who invented the sport. Not a bad day's work all told.

It doesn't matter what sport it is, it always feels great when we stick it to England.

Doubt it. We'd need to beat another big side to make the quarters.

David got in a lucky well aimed shot.
This game today was David hammering the cráp out of Goliath for 3 hours.

just been speaking to a mate who seems fairly less keen on johnny boy. Said he's not the most deserving!!! Still he could surely get behind him today?! Surely if he you are a true cricket fan you could? Looks like club rivalry always wins out :D

I have a mickey mouse account on that thing, but given the occassion i assume he wont mind the username.

Not so much of a shock overall though.

For us diehards at the last game in Beal-feirste 18 mths.ago, just after they'd retained The Ashes, Ireland only lost by 2 runs. So this had been coming for a while.
Though to be fair, in my wildest dreams, never thought it would be today.

But then none of us had reckoned with K.O'Brien.

I think most of us had an inkling that an upset was possible, just not very likely. We threw away some daft wickets against Bangladesh and England have been Jekyll & Hide so far. Awful in first game, pretty good against India. A good performance from us and a poor one from them and it was possible.

Sport is flippin' great.

Most of my English mates were very magnanimous, except a guy I work with: "what part of Ireland is Botha from?". Pot calling kettle black methinks. What a churlish response.

I still can't believe that England only got 35 runs from their last ten overs, theiur fielding which was superlative in Australia was brutal, and some of the bowlers that were on fire in Oz were rubbish. How crap was Anderson?

Our catching was brilliant.

Missed all of this yesterday because I was down in London. I couldn't believe it when I heard they were 0-1 at the start and chased down 300 odd to win.

The English team is South Africa's B team isn't it Stuttgart? Strauss, Pietersen & Trott!

On a personal level I like the one day format but test match cricket is not for me. I had a ticket for England-Pakistan last summer and it was the worst sporting experience I've ever had.

One thing that is prevalent in rugby and cricket but unfort lost in our sport these days is genuine sportmanship, amongst players and fans alike. Yes there will be examples of unsportsmanship in those sports and vice versa in football but even compare the reaction of the british media to the result versus it was a football match. Dignified, well mannered etc.

The mods care ;)

I should have changed the title to
"Will Ireland cricket win over England mean less young people choosing football?" ;)
