Goal with last kick of the game from Danny Furlong gave the Youths the victory in rain-soaked Ferrycarrig tonight in what was poor enough match. Wexford started with same eleven as against Galway with Packie, Karl, Anto, Wolfie, Murt, Shane, Craig Wall, Greg, Ben and Danny and Muzzi up front. First half was reasonable with the Drogs slightly shading the better of the few half-chances created. Wolfie firstly stuch a header from a free-kick over the bar and Shane shot over when set up by Muzzi. Drogs first attack ended when their forward couldn't get on the end of a dangerous cross.

Drogs, no. 9, Corcoran, then turned in the box and shot just beyond Packie's left post. Wexford's best chance then fell to Danny but his shot from the left was parried by Williams in goal. Immediately, Drogs went up the pitch and a neat one-two found their forward in the clear but he pushed the shot just wide of the post with Packie advancing.

Packie then did well to push away at close range a volley on the stretch from a Drogs attacker to make it nil-nil at half-time. Second half was pretty dire, however, and I thought that the Drogs fell away alarmingly possibly due to lack of fitness on a pitch that was getting increasingly heavy. In contrast, Wexford had the beter of the half and at least got a few shots on target with Ben working Williams with two free-kicks, Griiny almost scoring just after coming on as a sub, and Danny latching onto a back pass, roundind the keeper and from an acute angle pushing it into the side netting. Goal then came in third minute of injury time with a miskicked shot from the Youths falling to Shane in the box who squared it inside to Danny who tucked it away. Ball was placed on half-way for re-start and ref, blew for full-time after first touch.

Other subs who came on for Wexford in the second half were Patsy and Gareth; both worked hard and did well. Greg was another who caught the eye in midfield and looks much better prepared for the season to come. Drogs looked useful once they had the ball at their feet up front but struggled to make any contact with their forwards in the second half. One-nil to the Youths at full-time with about 100 at the match.
