Ned O'Keefe (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0216/breaking57.html?via=mr) has been on the quare stuff again.

Thought it might be worth a thread for the really off the wall bits of the election :)

Another strange point.

Brian Cowen (remember him?)- he's still the Taoiseach you know.

We should give our military a paper bag to play with, that'll distract them. :)

The Mannix Flynn (http://www.callingshotgun.ie/2011/02/rappin-mannix-flynn.html) rap may be the worst thing I've ever seen.

Micheal Lowry has the most facebook friends of any candidate: http://www.callingshotgun.ie/2011/01/independent-north-tipperary-td-michael_24.html

That's why he needed a bigger house, to have them over for a party!

I'm going to be killed for this, however...

Will it have showers in it?

It'll have all kinds of showers in it - FG, FF, Labour......

A force of 8,500 could decide to restore safety and maintain a military dictatorship with a variety of personnel carriers, some scout vehicles and 14 light tanks? I, for one, welcome our poorly equiped overlords...

Galway East getting in on the song theme here (http://irishelectionliterature.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/dolan-for-the-dail-campaign-song-for-michael-f-dolan-fianna-fail-galway-east/) :D

If our military decide to take over, it'll end up in all out war - kids out my way have heavier weapons and actual bullets!

On Mannix Flynn, the ribbons on his posters are weird - like an over enthusiastic helper mistook a poster for a pony! And I think they were done only recently (after they'd been up a week).

He's a country boy with loads of muscle, he's going to take the fight to Brussels.

I also thought the beards coming down from Mount Olympus stroking their mighty beards telling everyone who to vote for was pretty ill advised.

If Jack O'Connor wants to make sure of a Fine Gael majority all he has to do is keep mumbling. :bulgy:

My favourite election poster so far is for Tom Higgins, an independent in Waterford. He's a doctor so his slogan is "Nothing heals like a job". Personally it reminds me of Les Dawson on Blankety Blank. "My wife went to the doctor to find a cure for my bad back. The doctor told her nothing heals like a BLANK job".

From the Irish Times Live Blog:

Fine Gael’s efforts to reach a younger audience via the internet are becoming embarrassing. First, the party launched its unspeakably lame "Twolicy", urging supporters to become eCanvassers on Twitter. This was quickly followed by the virtual Valentine Day’s greetings card stunt which backfired when it emerged users could anonymously send nasty messages under aliases. Now, Kenny’s online team has rolled out a 1980s scrolling platform game which allows users guide a graphic Kenny on quest for votes. Enda’s character shouts insults at those he passes, such as “tax that” to Joan Burton and “put that in one of your reports” to Micheál Martin. Please make them stop, for the love of God. http://www.finegael2011.com/game/
