UCD COULD be parachuted into the Setanta Sports Cup after Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon intimated yesterday the holders may not be able to field a team.

I don't want to wish any misfortune on Bohs but...

Su-frigging-perb!

I like the irony of us losing most of our team and then replacing a side who can't field a team. :)

Sweet. Monday 21st, Portadown in the Bowl. That'd be a nice season opener.

Followed by a return game in Portadown too. Decent little ground up there. Pub beside does burger, chips and a pint for something ridiculously cheap (like a fiver). Plus they didn't have a scarf in their shop the only other time I was up, so I can fill in that gap.

This looks like it actually really might happen, yeah? Is it worth any money to us?

Don't all qualifying teams get a financial award? I think we'd need to progress at least one round to make decent money out of it. If you drew Rovers or perhaps Linfield you'd make a bit of gate money and possibly get a TV game.

I think the TV games and prize money got scaled down dramatically around the time Setanta got into trouble. It used to be every game was shown; last year, was there anything shown other than the final?

yeah setanta showed both semi finals plus some group matches ...

Last year, yeah?

That's what comes of not having a telly!

Edit - prize money from the Bohs forum -

Prize money allocated as follows:
Winner: € 50,000
Runner-up: € 30,000
Defeated semi-finalists: € 15,000 each
Defeated Quarter Finalists: € 10,000 each
Teams defeated in Round 1: € 7,500 each

So E7.5k even if we lose. That's another player. Be a lovely boost at the start of the season.

Edit edit - Bohs have cancelled their first pre-season friendly, which was this Saturday in Waterford. Another good sign, but it's hard to tell what's really going on at that club at times.

It was never every game. In fact they didn't even send cameras to most games. A few of the group games from alst year were shown live too.

I'd expect one a week this time

I still wouldn't hold my breath on this one. If Bohs continue to exist I'd expect the tourney organisers to show them some leeway before opting to bring us in instead.

True. I'm sure Pat's fans were saying the same thing four years ago though.

No, we knew Shels were ****ed. And there was a little more at stake than just the Setanta

Our odds of getting into this thing are getting shorter by the day. Lisburn are our other potential opponents.

Yeah, but at this rate, will we have anyone to play against?

At the current rate of no IL clubs going bust every week, yeah, I reckon we'll have someone to play against.

We know Bohs are ****ed though. Ditto Fingal.

So Distillery (with Billy) or Portadown in the SC on either the 14th or 21st, but our opening league game of the season is up in the air now as well. Fingal, Drogheda or Monaghan away? Don't know how we're supposed to prepare for this to be honest.

Both will be in the premier division this year

Wonder will it still be this Monday or will we be given a bit of time to prepare?

More winnable tie than Portadown too, I think (with all due respect to Distillery). Though that new keeper has been doing well for them. :p

I see Distillery are 6th out of 12 in the IFA Premiership. Glenn Ferguson is still playing for them at 41. Even if the tie is on Monday at worst it serves as a good warm up for the season.

Game is on in Dalymount (http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/4906/) due to a clash with a college rugby game. A shame - it'll be a tiny crowd lost in that ground - but hopefully we can get through and play the quarters at home.
