This is taken off the Rovers forum...

Rumour has it Labour in town has pressed the self destruct button.
After giving O'Keefe the nomination for Labour instead of Veronica Cawley who did so well in the Council elections it obviously did not sit well with Cawley.
Apparently Veronica is planning on running independant in the elections and leaving Labour, effectively taking the biggest hitter they have in Sligo.
If Veronica goes there is a decent chance that Marcella Mc Garry will go aswell since Marcella and her supporters are very much in Veronicas camp.
If Marcella stays with Labour it will mean that just her and Jim Mc Garry are left in the town and Jimmy and Marcella do not get on in the least.
Ironically if Marcella leaves with Veronica it will mean that Jimmy will be the main Labour man in Sligo, this only a few months after Gilmore and co were trying to push Jimmy out of Labour.
All this coming from Gilmore desperate to run his pet project Susan O'Keefe who is a ****.

Some background information to those that dont know here.
In the Borough Council in Sligo Town there are 12 councillors.
3 FG, 3 PSF, 2 FF, 3 Labour and 1 Independant Socialist.
The 3 Labour Councillors are Jim Mc Garry (owner of Mooneys as many here will know), Marcella Mc Garry and Veronica Cawley.

I said it months ago but Labour have peaked too early and are slowly melting away.
What's happening in Sligo is a microcosm of the problems that they'll face over the next month.

This is senior hurling lads.

TBH this has little to do with Labour peaking, this is to do with very very bad management by the leadership where they have alienated alot of local support.

The point I'm making is the fact that what has happened in sligo is an example of the disarray that labour seem to be in.

Yup, if whats going on here is anything to go by then the leadership dont have a clue.
Anyway O'Keefe doesnt have a chance of getting elected here, Bree will clean up in the town and all the left wing vote.
There will effectively be 14 candidates for a 3 seater.
Perry for FG will get elected, hes based in Ballymote.
Scanlon for FF is also from Ballymote and has a good chance of getting a seat.
Tony Mc Loughlin for FG should get a decent vote in the town and its surroundings.
From my reading of it Perry will cruise through with Scanlon, Mc Loughlin and Bree in contention for the last 2 seats.
PSF would have a good chance of getting elected if they ran Sean Mc Manus but he wont run this time, instead its Colreavy who wont get in because hes not from the town, hes from Leitrim.

This happens in every party. FF in Donegal NE are gutting each other, FG did the same for years, FG had rows in Galway West, SF previously had problems when they parachuted Mary Lou in over the head of a long standing councillor and they are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

That's true but Labour really should know better at this stage.
