Schoolboy planned Columbine massacre repeat
A teenager who planned to copy the Columbine massacre and shoot several students and techers at his school has been arrested in Sweden.
A lawyer for the 16-year-old said the teenager was suspected of conspiracy to commit murder.
He did not comment on reports that the boy planned to blow up his school in Malmo, 382 miles south-west of the capital, Stockholm.

trains leave copenhagen evry 20 minutes to go into malmo
nightlife also supposed to be a lot better in copenhagen

I was going to book that aswell but I was looking at this link (http://www.hotels-search-engine.org/hotel/11282389) and apparently it's 3km from Malmo city centre.
It's great to be near the stadium on the sunday but what about the friday and saturday, we'll probably be spending most of our days and nights in the City centre so it might make more sense to stay in a city centre hotel?*
*as long as the price wasn't too much more!!

I spent a few days in Copenhagen a few years back and visited Malmo for a day.
It did seem fairly quiet so if people were staying there for 3 days they might be stuck for things to do. (The museum in the castle will kill an afternoon and you get a great view of the Oresund? bridge from the seashore). I'd say if you're staying in Malmo it might be no harm trying to hook up with local fans who'll be able to show you the best places to go etc.
Copenhagen isn't exactly Las Vegas either but its a much bigger city with more touristy things to do.
Worryingly the best bar I saw in Copenhagen was an Irish bar on one of the main squares in the pedestrian district(Could have been Mulligans but not sure).
Anyway I hope everyone who makes the trip has a ball and makes as much noise as possible on matchday.
Just thought I'd help my fellow EU citizens out with some info about Malmö
Safety: no need to worry. The city is calm, even though idiots exist here just as elseware. I can hardly imagine that they would take on a group of Irish though, since they are cowards as all other idiots.
Nightlife: Naturally it is hard to compete w/ Copenhagen since it is a much smaller city. However pubs DO exist and prices are way better in Malmö. One irish pub can be recommended: Fagans at Grynbodgatan is very good with happy hour(s) between 1500-2000 hours. Guiness=35 sek/pint which is close to 4 euros. Another good place is Pickwick pub close to Gustav Adolfs torg with the same happy hours and prices. Besides these two places there are two major areas: Lilla Torg which is more poshy and expensive annd Möllan offering a more laid back athmosphere(and waaay cheaper!). In general alcohol is expensive and sold in special stores only open mon-fri (1000-1800 hours) and Sat(10-1400 hours). If you have the opportunity bring Danish beer that tastes better and is cheaper. If you're looking for nightclubs, Malmö has the biggest one in Scandinavia called Slagthuset, behind the Central Station.
If you have any questions just ask. And welcome to Malmö!
Cheers!

as in Sjag house? sounds good if its a literal translation!
Well, you´re pretty close to the truth. Litterally the translation would be The Slaughter House. But rest assured that easy women are...ehhh...let's say plentiful at that place. If you fail there, you fail everywhere...
Cheers!

what would be the best bar to go to for the atmosphere before the game and where away supporters would be welcome
Andee- we booked the Ibis In Malmo Stadion for our hotel. is it near the stadium and how far is it from the night clubs and pubs?

The fans here are not violent, we're niether Stockholm nor Gothenburg...the best athomsphere is found at Möllvångstorget(Möllan is the common name) where a lot of fans usually hang out before the games.

I dont know if this link works. The hotel is just 2-300 meters from the stadium. For pubs/nightclubs the distance depends on which area, between 1,5-3 kilometers depending on the area.

No clue about how many but you will see the sky-blue colours(please appologise spelling, quite drunk) and hear them...message boards are plentiful...try:

http://www.mffsupport.com/forum/
these are the two main message boards.
Cheers for the wonderful word Malmonians...>>>malmöiter is what we actually do call us...but I know...Swedish is a f****d up language.

21/10/99 ??? Now we´re talking about 2004... What I just read is of course shameful, but quite, quite, QUITE unlikely to ever happen again. Nowadays not much ever happens in terms of violence. From 1999 the supporter group hs gone from perhaps 500 to 6-7000, and violence has not been a part of malmö fans ever(even back in 99´it was probably the work of f***heads) who never cared about football anyways).
cheers

no need to worry about violence in malmö but do expect to pass through a metal detector on the way in to nightclubs.....
dont think there will be many at the match in malmö. portadown played here last year in the uefa cup and only 5,000 turned-up.

Depending on this weekends result Cork could be playing in the Munster Hurling final that Sunday so I'd say we hit an Irish bar to watch that before the City game

You'd be hard pushed to find an Irish bar with Setanta over there I'd say???

I'm Irish and living in Malmö and I can assure you that the so-called Irish pubs in Malmö are muck - they dont even open on sundays!
if you want to see the munster final you'll have to go to copenhagen.
