Eric Cantona has been appointed director of soccer at American club New York Cosmos. Good to see him back in football and good to see the cosmos coming back too.

Always liked the Cosmos, but C*ntona is a pr*ck. May a higher power help them.

Yeah they really went from strength to strength when they didn't sign him. But AFAIK he rejected a trial extension at wednesday as Leeds offered him a full contract

Just an attempt at levity. Wednesday (Trevor Francis) brought him to England, offered him a trial, he was offended that he should have to belittle himself with a trial, Leeds snapped him up and the rest as they say is history.

Whole thing smacks of mutally beneficial publicity stunt to me -rather than having a whole lot of much to do with football of any kind. "Director of Football/Soccer" apparently means something in some continental set-ups but it's generally reserved for Roy Evans types the parent club don't have the heart to sack. But in this instance -likely a figurehead and broadly dutiless position -a few photocalls aside.
