Obviously this can mean different things to different people. Ireland apart it has to be France v Portugal semi-finals Euro 84. The game that had everything. Watched it live in a bar in Rathmines and everyone in the packed bar took/changed sides. Dunphy called Platini a spoofer before the game and during the half-time interval. The passion and quality of football shown by both teams that night was as good as it gets. And probably the best commentary Motson ever did.

Stuttgart, 1988, Ireland vs England. Quality keeping, defending and absolute tension. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this had everything. Sneering English media (Irish mercenaries, English reserve team, English rejects, Best English team in a generation, No hope Ireland), fearful Irish nation, baking heat, first time on a big stage, packed Neckarstadion. It followed on from Stephen Roche and Barry McGuigan and should have ended up with at least a semi-final appearance.

Define "greatest"?
For sheer sense of occasion, Shels 2-2 UCD in Tolka in October 2009. Poor enough standard in the first half, but about the best unexpected performance I've ever seen us produce, especially when down to ten men.
I'll also throw in Shels 1-3 UCD, Brazil 5-2 Costa Rica, Czech Republic 3-2 Holland in Euro 2004 (I think?) and Ireland 1-1 Germany (along with the obvious games such as 1-0 v Holland in Lansdowne, etc)

Bray Wanderers 1-1 Monaghan United. The last 10 minutes of that game had enough drama to outclass eny other game ever played ever in history. Ever!

The 2006 Cup final was great entertainment. I was delighted to be there, even if the weird was atrocious. An excellent way to say goodbye to the old Landsdowne.

Was thinking about this to myself today
Arsenal 4-4 Tottenham would have to be right up there spectacular David bentely goal to kick it off then some sloppy spurs defending let arsenal back in and we went 4-2 down but 2 goals in injury time secured an amazing point and bragging right vs the arsenal fan in my house. ,
tottenham 4-4 Chelsea would be another one robbie keane scored a great goal late on before cudichini made an amazing save to deny us a late late winner. In terms of Longford Town games there have been so many I really could pick just 1 out even this season I seen some stunning games in flancare park. Euro 08 was the best tournament I've ever seen and turkey vs czech republic was
probably the most amazing out of all the games while germany 06 had 2 great games involving Germany the opening game vs costa rica which ended 5-2 to Germany it just kicked off the entire tournament and helped set the tone and their game vs Italy was also amazing and I suppose ud have to include Liverpool vs ac Milan and cup final vs west ham

The Champions League Final of 1992 between Barcelona and Sampdoria was a great match.
First LOI match I attended was Cork City 4-4 Shelbourne.
One of the most memorable Irish performances was the 1-1 draw at Wembley in 1991. Totally dominated England for a 15-20 minute spell in the first half, don't think I've ever seen Ireland put any team on the back foot to that extent. If only the flawless (if his punditry is anything to go by) Ray Houghton stuck his sitter near the end!
