Are you sure you've got the right league? That would seem organised, customer-friendly and progressive. Surely not the League of Ireland.

Dan McDonnell said it on Twitter:
"Cork resign Danny Murphy, Fingal confirm they're in Dalymount next year and fixture list announced tomorrow. The #LOI ploughs on."
and
"Just to confirm cos I'm getting more questions on it. LOI fixtures definitely released tmrw afternoon, even if more licensing issues to come"

Will it include A Championship fixtures? They'd want to be announcing what the clubs are playing for as well, promotion/relegation as normal or any changes that might be on the way.

Surely the most shocking announcement on foot in a long time. It's a Christmas Miracle.

It would appear to be true. Saw a message on Airtricity League Facebook saying it was tomorrow. As usual with the FAI its all smoke and mirrors.

Important line on the first page: SUBJECT TO THE DECISIONS OF THE FAI CLUB LICENSING COMMITTEE. It's great the fixtures are out anyways, just a shame there's no sign of the A Championship fixtures.

Home to Waterford in the first game. Should be a cracker.
We're playing Athlone away on the last day. I'm taking that as a good omen cos being home on the last day never works for us.

Shamrock Rovers v Dundalk will probably be the first live game on tv. They should look to avoid scheduling games on Monday nights that clash with MNS. It is a programme after all looking to promote the league.

In fairness legendz, they never released the 'A' Championship fixtures at the same time as the Airitricity League ones...they usually come a few weeks after
legendz
23/12/2010, 1:22 PM
They could start releasing them at the same time but I'll save my comments for the A Championship thread.
Derry City v Sligo Rovers should be another good opening fixture. The clash of the Rovers on the 12th of March should be another game for live tv.

Month of May is looking pretty crowded. 8 games in 4 weeks with a midweek EA Sports cup match before that. I can't see why the league couldn't be started two or three weeks earlier to avoid this buildup of games.

Same last year. Why can't they have just one mid week game a month over the season rather than squash it all into a month. Expensive month for fans going to all the games.

Well as a result I'm sure some won't go to some of the matches. Only a natural situation to occur.

Setanta Cup final is the 14th too. Likely to cause at least 2 games to be called off for that weekend

I agree, the league should be started a week or two earlier than it is to avoid this build-up of games. The LoI must have one of the longest off-seasons in Europe.

For most clubs, that means an extra week or two's wages to pay. It's probably more cost effective for clubs this way.

Would one week make or break a club? Would the attendance difference be large enough between a midweek and weekend game cancel out at least some of the extra week along with the extra sponsorship revenue/general interest that a weekend game may bring? Also there is the fact that with European competitions about a month after is fatigue a problem (which I suppose is a bit harder to quantify)

If they had to go with one of:
1) adding an extra week or two to the league season
2) reducing the number of league games
Which of the two options will be the most cost effective?

Of course there would be extra gate receipts for a weekend over midweek match, but for the vast majority of clubs the extra revenue would not nearly match the additional costs (this ignores the fact the half of the clubs - the away teams - would have increased costs with no extra revenue)

No, but there's a thing called the middle ground. It'd likely help a club.
