What county would have the best XI. Players must be born in the county and must of played LOI e.g Waterford would not be allowed John O Shea but Wexford can use Kevin Doyle.
Maybe pick your counties best XI from 1990-Present

I'll go with 4-3-3
Waterford:
GK: Brian Murphy
RB: John Hayes
CB: Kenny Browne
CB: David Breen
LB: John Frost
RCM: Alan Kirby
CM: John "Chilli" Power
LCM: Shane Robinson
FW: Daryl Murphy
FW: Noel Hunt
FW: Paschal "Snackbox" Keane

On a related point, would every county be able to name an XI?

It's a bit strange to call the thread 'Hometown XI' if it's based on counties and not towns.

Clubs should be encouraged to have more players from there town/county,this would make for better future Ireland players and a good sense of pride within clubs.

Thats a big problem in the league, such is the number of journeymen players, very often its hard to identify with players who move after a season and are only there to pick up wages..

Interesting you say that, many people from Monaghan that I would know claim they wouldn't go to Mons games because they always have a team of "journeymen" and there is never more than one or 2 "token locals" in the squad.

Harps are a mainly local side for the past 2 seasons. I'd go for:

James Gallagher

Seamie Coleman, Declan Boyle, Jim Sheridan, Johnny Minnock

Gareth McGlynn, Anthony Gorman, Fergal Harkin, Paddy McGrenaghan

Kevin McHugh, Mark Farren

I know there is obviously other glaring ones that Im missing but that will have to do for now.

Old argument that we disproved a few years ago when we had a predominately local side and got trounced weekly and no one came. Only success gets people off their butts and out to gortakeegan.

The crowds were still relatively poor this season considering the fine year ye had.
Say ye had success on a par with this season with a predominately local side, would that have improved yer attendances?

Possibly but it couldn't happen for years coz not enough good local players. Our gate did increase quite a lit in the final round of games actually. Don't have figures to hand but a lot of new and old faces came out for last few games.

Tough to pick a side for Cork

In my time

Goalkeeper: Mick Devine

Defenders: Declan Daly Gareth Cronin Brian Barry-Murphy Derek Coughlan Neal Horgan Alan Bennet
Midfield Patsy Freyne, Dave Barry, Joe Gamble, Colin Healy George O'Callaghan, Roy Keane, Roy O'Donovan (you gotta have some pace in this league)
Forwards: John O'Flynn John Caulfield

so I suppose something like this

Devine

Daly Coughlan Benno Cronin
Roy O'D Roy Keane Dave Barry Patsy
John and John

sorry but majority of people from roscommon town were born in ballinasloe, it does not mean they are from galway. same as with longford, most people my age from longford were born in mullingar, does not mean we are from there, it just so happens thats where the nearest maternity wing is! he is from tullamore or around there!
