I came across this the last day www.ozsoccerexperience.com . Its a website set up to bring European players to OZ. Players upload their own profile with the hope that a club down under will sort them with a career and team down their. Majority of them make out that they are better than they are. Theirs a few LOI lads on it....not surprizingly most unheard of but check out this dudes comments on the league http://www.ozsoccerexperience.com/player.php?PlayerID=00596
.......Eh..no Donal...maybe its because your Sh**t and cant get a game??????
In fairness you cant argue with his comment. Hardly the place for it though and I assume its not the reason he cant get a game.
Silly comment in the context as it makes him look like a thick, whinging, money grabbing typical footballer. Thought that player statement section woud have been better used to sell his abilities and experience ....if he has any.

Interesting to see John Dillon in it - thought he had signed up for next season ?

Also Timmy Purcell from Waterford and Dave Ryan the (ex?) Limerick keeper, Michael Kelly of UCD, Michael Sinnott and Michael Daly of Drogheda.

Michael Daly has moved to Oz so no surprise to see him on there.
I knew as soon as I saw the name Donal on the OP that it was him. He wouldn't get a game with our U12s never mind any League of Ireland first team. Typical comment from him.

Paul Byrne of Bray (so the site says - maybe it's a bit old?)
Awful search functionality - you can only search by age and position?

I dont really see the problems with his comment, the league is terribly run.

Well it may be in some quarters but the comment just translates to me as " Get me out of this **** league as Im too good for it". He is a 19 year old with little experience and a high opinion of himself so maybe he should get his own house in order first!

He played one or two games for us (Dundalk) back in the first division a few years ago when he was young and it must have gone to his head with comments like that. He was with us until July this year and struggled to even get on the reserve team. He is now is at Newry AFAIK and doesn’t get on their either so shows how much talent he has.

Ehh no, no it doesnt, no need for you to "translate" what he said, because its written there in black and white.
He stated, "Goalkeeper looking to make a career in Oz as the league in Ireland is badly run and there is no money in it, clubs are going bust".
Clubs are going bust and there is little money in comparison to other leagues now and it is badly run overall, everything he said there is accurate.

He implies that the reason he wants to leave is because of the incompetence and lack of money, whereas Dundalk fans will tell you he's just not good enough.

Don't know why Greene would be worried about lack of finances, he was our reserve goalkeeper when he was with us and would of been only here on amateur terms so it wasn't like he was relying on wages from the club.

Guinney, I think you'll find that he has never even played for the first team. Even worse, when Gill was in charge last time they were in the first division, he put outfield players on the bench as reserve goalkeepers ahead of Greene. From what I hear from mates round Dundalk, he has a serious opinion of himself.
On another note, does anyone know the standard of the leagues over there and how well they're run?

Greene's only first team appearance was against Derry in a friendly in 2007. He came on in the 88th minute when we were 4-0 up! Twas Pat Fenlon's first or second game in charge of Derry. Not sure why exactly he was ever in the senior setup at Dundalk.

Anyone know is Clive Delaney playing for anyone in Oz? Be a good way to guage the respective levels.

Dunno about that but Shane Robinson and Jason gavin are playing a very poor semi pro level. RObinson, at least, has to work. I've heard the playing level compared to "mid level Leinster Senior League"
All hearsay obviously

Jason Gavin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Gavin) - Stirling Lions in the West State League. There's some drop from the Premier League alright. Robinson at the same club.
Video highlights here (http://www.club-footballwa.com.au/wordpress/stirling-lions-soccer-club/video-highlights/). Looks like you might be being a kind kind there, Dodge!

As far as i know, Robinson got himself a move to a bigger club a good few leagues above stirling lions.

Also in fairness to that Greene chap, the league is a mess, there is no money and clubs are going bust.
He's hardly going to say "Dearest Australia please give me a job as I am too crap to get one here"

He was offered something down there after he finished with Bray iirc and decided not to take it at the time.
The goalkeeper has his weight listed as 15st and he's only 6'2" - surely that's very chunky for a GK??

Adam Hughes is doing quite well over there. Playing in the A-League for Adelaide United. He had a poor season last year but apparently this year he's been a lot better

No Shane Robinson is still with the Stirling Lions. There was an article on him in this weeks Munster Express. He was voted their player of the year this season. They lost the championship final there. It says the league he is playing in is one level below Australian A League.

How good is the A-League I've only seen the highlights programme on sky a couple of times and it didnt look great.
Has anyone got a more educated opinion of it?
and does any one know what attendances are like in the state leagues?

Standard really isn't that good, players from Eng Lge 1 actually look decent in it so Robinson should be good enough to make of the squads.
Crowds vary, Melbourne Victory are probably the best supported & can get up to 20,000 to a game but I'd day the league average is closer to 8000 with the newer sides struggling to get over 5000

I went to a couple of games there last year. As Bunny says, Melbourne had about 20,000 at their League semi-final, but the next evening at the second semi, there was only about 2,000 at it. A couple of the other games ranged from 10,000 to 15,000. There was a good atmosphere at all the games I was at.
Shane Smeltz was the League's top scorer, having played non-League in the UK a couple of seasons before.

Wasn't James Timmons of UCD down in Australia last season?

He was for a while, yeah. He re-joined us mid-way through last season. Think he's with the LSL team now.
