As expected Denis Irwin is officially retiring from the game this weekend. He's been a great professional and served Ireland so well down the years. He's a true gentleman and will be sorely missed.

Best of luck to him in whatever he does!

Fair play to Dinny. An Ireland great. Best of luck in whatever he does next.

Yes he had a fine career, a great servant of Man U and Ireland.

One of the more unsung heros in my opinion, but he was never one
who liked to hog the limelight. You don't play that long for a club like Man U
unless you are truely top class.

Best of luck for the future Dennis! :)

More threads for Denis Behan on foot.ie than Denis Irwin oddly enough :D

Irwin entered the National Football Museum's Hall of Fame (http://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/news/hall-of-fame-inductees-announced) this year with the award ceremony taking place tonight. Mark Lawrenson also made it.

Interesting that Ferguson is quoted as saying that he regarded Irwin pound for pound as his greatest ever signing. Weight or money?

Just to make you all feel that little bit older than you already do...

Denis made his Man U debut 27 years ago today.
