Irish under-21 forward Eamon Zayed, who netted his first goals of the season for Bray Wanderers in the League Cup victory over Shamrock Rovers earlier this week, has admitted that he will have to be at his best to retain his place in Pat Devlin’s promotion-chasing side this season.

Zayed returned from a three-month loan spell at Crewe Alexandra last week, and went straight into the side for the 1-0 victory over Galway United at the Carlisle Grounds.

He failed to find the target on that occasion – fellow front man Kieran “Tarzan” O’Brien nabbed the winner – but broke his duck with a double against the Hoops on Monday night.

And he realises that he must keep his scoring boots on to keep his place in the side. He told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Tarzan is the second top scorer in the division. And Kevin [Grogan] is a real talent. There is a lot of competition for places. We have John Flood and Stephen Fox is just back from injury. I’ve got to stay in the team and scores the goals that keeps me there as well.”

Bray travel to Oriel Park to meet Jim Gannon’s Dundalk in the First Division tonight
