Boss Chris Turner has informed Sheffield Wednesday’s Irish trio, Alan Quinn, Brian Barry- Murphy and Derek Geary that they are free to leave the second Division outfit after a poor season in the Division.

24-year-old Quinn (180 appearances and 17 goals), 23-year-old Geary (127 appearances and 0 goals) and 25-year-old Barry-Murphy are the latest in a heap of Irish men surplus to requirements across the water.

The three Irishmen are part of 13 players released b the Hillsborough outfit, while only two players have been Offered Deals After Owls Clearout.

Quinn is still being courted by Sunderland his last involvement with the Irish squad was in April of this ear when he was called up to the squad to face Poland, after 11 of the original members withdrew through injury.

Hartlepool United have again been linked with former Cork City and Irish U21 International defender Barry-Murphy, after the Cork native spent time on the books at Victoria Park from October – December 2002 on loan from Preston.

Geary - a former Cherry Orchard player - joined the Owl’s in the year 2000 after successful completion of a trial, and he went on to make his League debut against Oldham in September of the same year making 10 appearances for the season.

The energetic right-back then went on to make 39 appearances for Wednesday in the 01-02 season, and when all seemed to be going well for the Dubliner, injury struck and the he missed the remainder of the 02-03’ season from January onwards with a serious knee injury.
