The new FM should be good for managing in Ireland because of the "dynamic league reputation" meaning that success in Europe will mean the league will be able to attract better players.

You've been able to do that for ages.

I just deleted FM 10 yesterday because it was taking up too much time. I should have known when I opened this thread that there would be a message to make me badly want the new game.. and there it is.

The transfer system in the new game has been getting awful reviews. Players falling out with managers over nothing and then being transfer listed for peanuts.

Yes it has. I've been able to win extra European places for the LOI as far back as FM2007.

Got the game Sunday. Managing as Dundalk obviously. Not very far in yet but liking the new features. And like last year you activate the A Championship through the editor. Pretty important this, as otherwise you've no games for your reserves.

What's this like if you've got the game? I've read the same things, all to do with the heightened 'realism' when dealing with players. Apparently they fall out with you for no reason at all...

I'm playing as Dundalk so I haven't encountered this problem. Apparently, it's a problem that only really applies to Premier League / La Liga / Serie A clubs that have players with massive reputations.
Selling players is extremely difficult in the game though. I've listed first team fringe players for sale with an asking price of €0 and status set to 'not needed'. Offered them around and no clubs at all are interested. In previous versions you'd always find a non league team who'd take these kind of players off your hands.

It was there in CM01/02.

Can you manage "A" Chamionship teams, in other words can you manage Rams?
Yeah you can manage Cobh. You can manage first teams in the A Championship like Cobh, Carlow and Castlebar but not the reserve A teams.
It was there in CM01/02.
I should have said at least as far back as FM2007.

Really, how?? I bought it yesterday, but the lowest it said i could manage was 1st
You need to activate the A Championship in the editor. It's called the Irish Second Division Championship. I don't have the game here at the moment but the route in the editor is something like create nation rules, add lower league. Then you pick Ireland, go to the A Championship and stick in a championship playoff, test nation rules and that should say everything is fine.

Anyway heres my gripe how come the season only started in July after 16 games, where we were rock bottom with 3 points, 3 draws. Disaster i just have to hope if its a playoff cause Wexford in 2nd last are 20+ points ahead. I haven't got 2011, but in previous versions you get to choose the start date for a new game from a dropdown, e.g. Ireland (January 2010,January 2011) or England July 2010.

Made Pat O'Sullivan an Underwriter (which is basically what he is!!), sorted out Boez, Fingal and a lot of player ratings, attendances, reputations, throughout the league.
And the game is bloody well easy! :)
Limerick are premier now, in the realism stakes I'm not sure if Gavin Mahon and Gavin McCann signing on to play in my midfield for 300 quid a week each at the start of my first season in the Premier is super realistic but I'll take it. :p
Also, lad managin Dundalk, try to lay hands on Callum Davenport at the start of your second season. He came to Limerick for 650 pound a week and he is a BEAST of a defender at LoI level.
Got this today. Boreham Wood's rise to glory starts here.
(Damn but they're frightening terrible at the moment though)

I know some people on this forum are obsessed with a pyramid structure for the League of Ireland so I've created one of sorts for FM11

Hey the premier and first divisions have 14 teams each withe the usual league clubs (including A championship) plus Kilkenny being the 28th.
Then I just divided up what clubs the game already has into the regions but I had to add loads of clubs from the West to make up the numbers, so clubs like Westport utd, Carbury utd, strand celtic, Galway hibs. Added some clubs for the south too like Pike rovers, Nenagh Celtic and others. East is mainly dublin clubs.
Some clubs like Pike Rovers are already in the game database but not assigned a country

I sense my interest piquing. I hate this game and what it did to me in 2009. I fret that I may make the same error and stupidly purchase it. I shall endeavour not to and stick to Pro ev for now...

For those that have played 2010 and 2011 is it true that 2011 is a lot better ?

FM08 was the last game I had. Don't like this game at all, gone way too technical compared to 08. I pick up an injury every couple of games and a load of yellows each game, losing more or less every game no matter what I do.

It's lost its "addictiveness". Or maybe I'm getting old?
