I only watched a few minutes of it but he seems a harmless enough sort! Another ex Shamrock Rovers player, quite a few of them in the squad now. Understandable enough considering Cousins' Rovers connections.

he stutters alot if he thought of his question before he said it he would be alright anyway back to the matter on hand what do ye think would he be a good signing or not? we just said the other day another striker wouldnt be any harm and he is very young so hopefully one for the future what do ye think?

the few occasions hyland slotted in at centre back i though he did well last season, personally I preferred him and sammon in the middle, but all depends on how hope and collins settle in at the back.. Hopefully the addition of walsh is a signal of the way we intend playing this year, tactics didnt suit him last year, and perhaps he might be better suited to playing possibly as a second striker or an old style no 10.. nevertheless hope springs eternal for the new season

No harm having a look at him in pre season anyway, if the management think he's worth a shot then so much the better.

he could be very useful in a link man role, or as you put it an old fashioned no.10, a good ball player who will only gain in confidence from playing regularly!

does anyone know if he has signed or if its just another loan deal!?

Oh I know there was training on Wednesday, I was there.
Didn't see any of the lads mentioned. I didn't stay for the full session though so maybe they were all late arrivals.

The Polish trialist that played last night has signed until June apparently, Piotr Szcerbowski henceforth to be known, to me anyway, as the Big Szcerbowski or The (Polish) Dude. Formerly of Longford Celtic.

thats interestin with Liam Lynch he was too good for the Roscommon league with Ballinasloe town.. i saw on the general thread that ronan frawley is with willow park.. Its not that long ago since he had his first spell with Athlone... see that Daisy is the only ex town player from last season trainin with Athlone at the moment..

Lads what did ye make of Michael Foley when he was with ye. Apparently he's in talks with Kerley over joining us. I know he suffered a lot with injuries when he was with ye and Drogheda. Just wondering would he be another Davy Byrne for us and be lying on the treatment table the whole time or would he be worth taking the risk on?

Longfordian
27/01/2011, 12:55 PM
Wouldn't take the chance, personally, if money is tight. Good enough player on his day but not good enough to justify signing him for the season given the amount of games he'd probably miss.

I'd have to agree with longfordian I dont think he would be worth the risk he definitely has the ability ie good passer , decent set pieces etc but hes just to injury prone.

still cant put my finger on who he is, i have seen a good bit of area league over last few years and still cant think of anyone that stood out!so looking forward to seeing who it is!

saying that though i remember two seasons ago when they town were looking for a friendly and played the pick of the area league there wasn't a kick of a ball between the teams, and when ya think about it, it was the towns first team half way through a season and the area league team was thrown together the weekend before the match and the only trainin the players would have been doing would be a bit of astro turf during the week, not training, just a game between friends like! point being there is very good players playing area league in longford, like some of the players playing with the runaway leaders wander and many others!

not true at all. I am best friends with Longford Celtics manager and he is delighted he got the move. The way the transfer works is the CCFL get 30 euros from us and as courtesy longford celtic will get a few match balls from us..

What is not true about it? Did he sign for them? From what I hear, he was far too good for them. I can't imagine Longford Celtic being entirely happy with one of their better players being sold on?

I think what Marty is saying 'not true at all' is your comment about Longford Celtic 'aren't too happy'. I'm sure as Cabs88 said Celtic wouldn't begrudge the lad his chance of trying to make it in the League of Ireland. Now if he had to off left for another Area League side it would be a different story.

the 'with all due respect' comment was directed at the club in question, one would need an incredible amount of respect for a man on such a high horse as yourself, and funnily enough I do not see the need to bestow such a thing towards you.

Love it Cabs, love it! I'm not on any horse, as I don't particularly like horses.

Bull**** aside, I'm not an any high horse. And I don't even know how I provoked this latest attack on myself. I just said that I didn't think that Longford Celtic would be too happy that one of their better players was leaving.

well they dont have a hope in hell of winning the league this year so i wouldnt think it will make much of a difference for the rest of their season to be honest!

Thats a blow really good player unlucky to get injuried when he did last season was playing really well even picked up a player of the month award , anyway I see Paddy Madden is set to move to Carlise wonder does that rule out a move for Lee?

I wouldnt think so myself ... I would think Lee could get another trial over the near future again..According to sky carlisle were down a player anyway so madden would be a direct replacement.

I think Carlisle took in a left back on loan from Man United or some other Prem team. If they're signing him think it'll be the summer or when Lee is out of contract.

He had a spell with Kildare County in 08, think he signed for us from a defense forces team or college team or somthing like that, wouldnt be 100% on that though.

Just another overview of how the squad's shaping up with the new signings included

So at present the squad is

GK
Rouse
Conlon

DF
O'Reilly
Lee
Deans
Hope
Collins
Dowling

MF
Hyland
Salmon
Brady
Walsh
A Roche
Oladele
Szcerbowski
Morley

FW
Skelly
Cowan
L Roche
Reilly

Plus perhaps Kevin Dawson if he signs and then the under 20s as they come through. Pretty rounded squad overall on a limited budget I reckon. Hopefully we'll have a decent season. Barry Skeete was at the game the other night too, well I assume it was him, don't know if we'll be signing him though.
