Saw he scored for Coventry today against Leeds and came across this. (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/2009/09/13/i-may-have-to-leave-everton-but-i-d-love-to-stay-in-spl-says-motherwell-loan-star-lukas-jutkiewicz-78057-21669887/)

I've seen him a few times and he reminds me somewhat of Leon Best.

What do others think of him?

Haven't seen much of him, other than his wonder goal last season, but from browsing some Everton forums, I understand that the lad found his level in the SPL. At present, we have much better options up front.

Did well in the SPL last year, this goal was probably the highlight.

Hasn't done enough yet to be considered for a call up though, and we're probably only his third country anyway.

Trap doesn't realise the SPL exists. Why else would he pick Folan over Stokesy?

Probably his second - I'd wager his ma's country is more important to him than his grandad's. He's still a young player and may well be an option in future, but the fact he didn't show enough promise for underage squads puts him behind the likes of Best.

Because Stokes hadn't scored a hat trick when the squad was announced?

It's even simpler than that - they play different roles. Folan has been picked the expense of Sheridan, probably due to his superior physique (ironic given that he's currently injured). Stokes will be competing with Keane and Long for a shirt, realistically.

He had scored six other times though.

Folan has played three games this season, only 192 minutes and 0 goals. Sheridan is getting far more gametime than that.

Scored twice for Middlesborough last night. Seems to be doing fairly well there.

Can't believe he's not in the squad for the Germany game. The whole Polish striker schtick would really mess with them...

Trap Out.

I doubt it, seeing as their two main strikers over the past decade are in fact Polish. In fact, it seems as though only Polish players can score for Germany against Ireland, so its a damn good thing he's not there or he'd probably score an own goal :p.

Doesn't make sense to me, why would Jutkiewicz inclusion cause anymore "Polish striker schtick" then already was. I am tired though and am going to bed.

Six months ago, when Lukas Jutkiewicz was first linked with a move away from Teesside, a queue of volunteer taxi-drivers quickly formed outside the Riverside.

Those would-be chauffeurs eager to usher him out of Boro back then will be staggered to see the striker now set his Satnav for the dream destination of the Premier League.

That technocrat coaches Sean Dyche and their former boss McClaren both covet an ungainly hitman with a distinctly average second-tier strike rate has left plenty of Boro supporters scratching their heads and crying: “But he’s been useless at Boro.”

As Tony Mowbray’s reign ended in a face-palm flurry of missed sitters from the frontman, the consensus among Boro fans was Jutkiewicz was not up to scratch in the Championship let alone the higher level.

He was a bit of a handful with his back to goal and was willing to pick up bruises for the team, but when he turned he was easily brushed aside, a big lad who was bullied off the ball by even limited central defenders.

He would make promising runs into the box only to stumble and shin it high or wide.

And he lacked the mobility or first touch to link up with Mowbray’s fluid but mono-paced midfield and their windscreen-wiper passing. Mowbray’s last game in charge was a chaotic defeat at rock-bottom Barnsley most memorable for the way a fragile defence were torn apart in a shameful first half.

But before the Oakwell implosion Jutkiewicz was through on goal in a perfect position but somehow blazed wide. It was a familiar sight.

The arrival of Aitor Karanka saw Jutkiewicz, a £1.2m buy from Coventry in January 2011, pushed down the pecking order.

The targetman couldn’t play the way Karanka wanted, as a spearhead in a 4-2-3-1 system that demanded constant mobility to close down opposing defenders and an instinct to drop deep to link with midfield.

With the best will in the world the new shape and tempo didn’t suit the Jutkiewicz skill-set.

If Clarets chiefs are being realistic they will make contingency plans for relegation and the following years’ promotion push powered by parachute payments.

In a year from now Jutkiewicz could be leading the line in a renewed Championship campaign.

Has he got a Scottish granny? That'll seal the deal for me.

I have heard he is a bit of a bright spark(plug).
Someone who could ignite the Irish attack!
I am not surprised he is now knocking on the door of the Premier League, but in fairness that could be due to a weak mixture :)

I know you're making a pun about something Tricky but I can't figure out what it is.

OK I will explain, however I am not sure what bits you don't understand so I will assume all of it!!

Lukas Jutkiewicz as in Lucas

They make spark-plugs or used to anyway.

Hence spark plugs ignite the mixture, however sometimes the mixture may ignite too early and this is called or at least is mistakenly called 'knocking'
and can be caused by a weak air fuel mixture.

Only the really bright sparks on here would have got that Tricky! (Not)

Seems strange that Jutkiewicz (now 34) never got anywhere near the Ireland senior team, even for a 'let's have a look at him' half a game. Never made the grade at PL level, but 94 Championship goals before today's outing.

Was he ever actually confirmed as being eligible? He's a bit of a carthorse anyway. Decent second tier player, but no better than what we had at the time, if even that.

Apparently Martin O'Neill was considering him in 2016, but I guess he was happy with Walters, Long and Murphy, while giving some caps to McGoldrick and Aiden O'Brien: https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/international-soccer/martin-oneill-steps-up-interest-in-birmingham-striker-everything-you-need-to-know-about-lukas-jutkiewicz-35314042.html
