Dempsey, Murphy, Dillion, Ferguson, Prunty, Vinny, Sheridan, Keogh, Barrett, Keegan, Lavine.
4-3-3 in that order..
Pretty much a non-event last night. Kildare battled hard and were very physical. Their no. 6 won every header in the middle of the park. The town lads didnt seem all that interested, probably having one eye on saturday, no point picking up any injuries.
Seemed like a strong team but when you look at it we only had 4 or 5 of the strongest 11 starting. Highlights the strenght of the squad at the moment.
Lavine showed some great touches and looked like our best striker. Unfortunately his finishing was deplorable as was keegans.
Darragh Sheridan actually impressed but Vinny had a forgettable night. he kinda lost the plot when he was taken off, kicking the dugout seats and heading straight for the dressing room  Centre midfield remains a huge problem. Comprehensively outplayed there by kildare for most of the game last night.
Back 4 were rock solid except for the goal which had a strong suspision of offside..
Lavine always had nice touches... How was he attitude? Whats the story with Barrett?

Agree with most of the above match report with one or 2 adjustments. It is obvious that 4-3-3 dosen't suit us as we had no width at all.Vinny was shocking, his worst performance ever for the Town.I thought his little episode after he was taken off was bad form and Matthews should have a word with him.I'm sure it was just his frustration at being taken off.Keegan was very poor as usual so no surprise there. He spends more time on his arse than a sit down protester and i stand by my opinion of him being a bad and unnecessary signing.Darragh was crap.He can't pass a ball, he can't head a ball, he complains all the time and he gives away to many free kicks.I counted 12 or 13 last night and yet he wasn't booked i think.Barrett done ok and Lavine played well although he missed 2 very good chances but hopefully he is on his way back.Sean Prunty was excellent again.Solid at the back although he had no outlet which he could pass to which was down to the 4-3-3 sh1t but when he pushed up to left side midfield he gave good width, whipped in a couple of decent crosses and scored an excellent goal.Maybe he's an option for that position again with Paiso dropping back to left full and Brian Byrne keeping Keego entertained on the side line.My team v Dublin City
Dempsey ( cos Digger is suspended )
Murph, Barry, Dillo, Paiso
Martyn, Kirby, Vinny, Prunty
Baker, Francis/Lavine
Not a bad side.
I'd plump for
Dempsey,
Dillon, Ferguson, Paisley, Prunty
Martin, Kirby, Murph, Byrne,
Francis, Baker.
if Lavine has got his attitude and appetite right I'd stick him in the midfield. I'd have to take a chance. Love it if it worked

i'd agree with xlex team, strongest we have at the mo with mcgovern injured.....but i'd like to see barrett and baker get at least a half up front together

Lavine was useless and proved why Matthews leaves him in the stand week in week out!! as for his attitude he went straight to the dug out and Matthews went over patted him on the back and he didnt so much as acknowledge him! darragh (i feel pretty) sheridan was also crap da usual pull out if tackles and den started mouthin when something else was goin on! Vinny had a bad game but i think his outburst was more to do with playing bad rather than bein takin off!he didnt go to the dressing room but went down and was stretchin and stuff with the other lads! as for prunty he was outstanding and a well deserved goal

I was trying to concentrate on the game but was distracted by some strange noise which happened to be the famous and freaky Max Power!! intrigued by your obsession with poor Vincent i couldnt help but listen to the rubbish falling from your mouth and to the frantic questions by those unfortunates sitting beside you wondering who you were and why you were talking to them!!

If Lavine was useless then i wouldnt like you to describe the preformances of our other strikers... So what if he didnt give Matthews a great big beaming smile, players should be judged by what they contribute on the pitch not how they react to their managers after being substituted. By that logic, Vinny should be accused of having the worst attitude of any town player at the moment... and we all know thats b*lox.
I know nothing of the ins and outs of his off the field problems but from a purely footballing point of view his attitude was 100% last night. He tackled back alot and more than once made something from nothing. He also created great chances for barrett, keegan and vinny. We dont have a more creative player(well mabye Dessie Baker). Hes obviously lost all confidence in front of goal though so mabye a more withdrawn role could work.CAnt remember who suggested a centre midfield position (think xlex). Agree with this being worth a try.
Agree with you about prunty.. excellent! And when Paisley came on our left hand side looked extremly dangerous. They would definetely be my choice on the left

in fairness majority of my rant regarding Lavine was towards Xlex question about his attitude! agree our strikers were all bad last night but Lavine just does not have the quality to be playing week in week out! He had two glorious chances last night other strikers would have put them away..he pulls out of scoring opportunities! other than this 2 of his "chances" were ballooned over the wall and the rest he stops in his tracks and waits for someone to move forward and hits it across the field! all our strikers need more confidence infront of goal but Lavine is playing here long enough to know what he has to do, last season was long enough for us to wait for him to regain his "confidence"! i have said before to try lavine in midfield to get the breaking ball and send barrett etc through but then we end up going back to his training commitments and so on which would lead us to believe he really doesnt deserve his game!
No one can argue about Vinnys commitment to our club and as i said his outburst was more about the way he played than the fact he was taking off!

Prunty nets Town winner
Longford Town 2-1 Kildare County
Premier Division Longford Town gave themselves a chance of qualifying for the last eight of the League Cup with a hard-fought victory over First Division leaders Kildare County at Flancare Park on Tuesday night.
Left back Sean Prunty fired the all-important winner seven minutes from the end to seal all the points for Alan Matthews’s side.

i dont think he was a crap signing but sure we could have spent the money elsewhere! he is good in the air etc but we are paying a few strikers alot of money and none of them except sean francis are doing their job...scoring goals
Lavine in Midfield? We're lightweight enough in there, and given his attitude he should be fooked out of the club at the earliest opportunity.
Keegan's problem is that whenever he's on the pitch we play long ball rubbish - if we played football he would be a success. However, given the money he's likely to be on he should've been brought in as player coach, given his qualifications.

think everyone would agree there!!!

I can't believe there is so much anti Lavine talk.So he fuked up a bit and his attitude hasn't been the best. He's not the first and won't be the last so get over and move on.If he gets a few runs under his belt and a goal or 2 he'll be flying again. His goal rate has been very poor but his all round general play has been good at times. He deserves his chance for the contribution he has made to this club over the years and on this he should be judged. He has won more games for us than i can remember. There was no need to sign Paul Keegan. He makes little or no contribution. He wins sweet FA in the air and what he does win are little flick ons to nobody. He can't pass all that well and he wouldn't score in a brothel with free vouchers.Whether you like my opinion on Keegan or not the facts speak for themselves. We took him on even though he hadn't performed well for Bohs in a long time.I hope i am proved wrong but at the moment i doubt it and believe me nobody wants him to do well more than me.In relation to my previous post i said Vinny was annoyed because he was taken off.I was suppose to put down that he was frustrayed with himself due to a poor performance.

You've gotta be takin the p!ss... He's had long enough to prove himself, in between spitting the dummy of course.
So you want Lavine to be given yet another chance and you're writing off Keegan after 11 Competitive games?

the playoff game in donegal was the last decent game lavine played for the club and that was 2 years ago, this is football and if you don't cut the mustard than its bye bye time, past achivements hold little water in the present......bon voyage eric !!!
and from me, someone eho was very vocal last season on giving him another chance that says a lot about his attitude towards the club.......

Well if it is bye bye to players who don't cut the mustard then Paul Keegan & one or 2 others should be gone.To me Lavine's attitutde has been poor but on his on field performance against Kildare was good.We all know how good he can be where as with Paul Keegan we really don't know how good he is as we only ever seen him with Bray & Bohs and i can't remember him being overly outstanding. For someone to say he has had only 11 competitive games and give him a chance is a bit silly. How long should we give him.So far he hasn't shown any signs of going on a goal scoring streak and i really think his all round play is poor and he's not the answer to our goal scoring problems. If your on about giving people a chance then why not Lavine. He scored in pre season and Keegan didn't so on a Footballing level he is more entitled to a chance and at the end of the day it's all about Football.
On another note, when is the club bar opening? and is this Midfielder coming to the Club?
With Lavine at the moment it's not just the fans that are getting sick of his attitude on and off the pitch Alan Matthews is as well..It's obvious to everyone that Lavine doesn't give a toss about things,he just shrugs his shoulders and gives that smug grin of his..On the topic of Paul Keegan give the guy a break..At Bray and Bohs he was a success with Jason Bryne and Crowe respectively..Proves with the right partner and right type of ball to him he'll do well..I know that he's frustrated with things at the moment and would dearly love to break his duct..I do remember the season before last people spouting about a certain Mr Francis and his lack of goals and his general play, a lot were also questioning his signing and look what happened there..At least you can say Keegan has the right attitude unlike Mr Lavine...

i still dont think he has lived up to E10000 we spent for him and when you consider we got dessie for free theres no doubt who out of the two is the better
name the other footballer whose goals got us to where we are. He was our only goal threat against DC. And that comparison between Baker and Francis is unfair. Francis is one hell of a professional and LTFC are lucky to have him. Rovers fans would give us the €10,000 back in a flash.

i wasn't always a fan of his but i take it all back now :(
