So with four months until the next game, time to keep an eye on the comings and goings, and hope that not that many involve us...

Paul Byrne has been released from Pat's, while Dessie Baker is retiring - only two former UCD players I've seen news of so far.

Greg to Dundalk (http://www.dundalkdemocrat.ie/dundalksport/Dundalk-FC-manager-Ian-Foster.6619347.jp)?

This mayn't be a fun pre-season...

Aaron Callaghan and other back-room staff let go per today's Indo. All non-scholarship players free to sign for another club (I imagine some will return to us on reduced wages in Feb as has happened before).

Fun fun fun! :(

Any more word on this Stu?

Not an idea; transfer news never comes out at our end unfortunately. Seems quite possible though. What's interesting is Daniel McDonnell saying we'd be looking for a fee for Greg and Killer. Either he's wrong on how the transfer system works (which is unlikely, cos Dan's usually on the ball in fairness) or we've offered contracts to Greg and Killer for next year knowing that they were the two looking to move on to bigger things anyway, and so get a fee.

Shorty to Pat's is confirmed. Karl Moore has joined a Spanish Third Division side.

That second one is more interesting, any idea why? Guessing it's either a bird or he fancies living in Spain for a year.

pineapple stu
23/11/2010, 11:12 AM
Probably a mix of the two. He was saying it before the Fingal game that that was his plan anyway. He was only ever at UCD to be in the shop window and to get back to full fitness. May come back either to Ireland or England after that.

Rusky talking to Pat's and Shels apparently.

Which seems to be more than I'm talking to. :p

Karl Moore has joined a Spanish Third Division side.

Strange move. His parents must have a house over there or something and fancies a bit of sun as the standard in that league is rubbish. It's actually the forth division and contains over 300 teams. there is also 80 teams in the third tier. You are seriously talking about LSL standard or less

Mick Kelly (http://www.ozsoccerexperience.com/player.php?PlayerID=00808) looking for a move to Oz. Timmy Purcell and Paul Byrne on that site too. I'd say there'll be a few more too.

Here's (http://www.ozsoccerexperience.com/player.php?PlayerID=00587) one actually - remember him from our Cup tie in Salthill. Wonder why he stood out? :p

Ev to Pat's, it seems.

Andy Boyle and Chris Mulhall have signed for Shels, per their website. Teency bit surprising stepping down a division.

Also, someone on the Pat's forum saying we're looking for E23k for Killer.

from a good source, kilduff has agreed a deal with shamrock rovers costing 20,000 euro

Presumably a better source than seeing someone walk out of a park, like your last post?

Blackpool looking for someone (2 likely culprits) according to Dan McDonnell (http://twitter.com/#!/McDonnellDan/status/14813618814062592).

pineapple stu

Two potentially good stories there from our point of view. I'd imagine it's Killer, in which case money and another concrete example of how playing at UCD can benefit a player. And if Fingal are looking for investment, they're in trouble (just reading the LoI speak really) and may be in and around our level next year. So given Galway and Bohs appear buggered and the league is expanding from next season, it looks like we should be safe from relegation next year. Very early days though!

Schumi
15/12/2010, 11:08 AM
It's Bolger. http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/former-student-bolger-set-to-realise-tangerine-dream-2461089.html Sounds very preliminary so far.

pineapple stu
15/12/2010, 11:13 AM
Interesting. So we've offered both Bolger and Killer contracts for next year to try get transfer fees? And if he goes to Dundalk, we'll still be looking for a fee? That's assuming McDonnell is right about getting compo!

Schumi
15/12/2010, 11:22 AM
According to Dan, the club reckon there'll be a fee anyway. http://twitter.com/#!/McDonnellDan/status/14837855759106050

Super.

Wouldn't have thought Greg was Premiership material though!

Also - me being me - is there any link to the stuff about Fingal?

I couldn't find anything about it in the football articles, the search on the Indo's site is rubbish so that didn't help either.

Had a browse of the paper down the bank and didn't see anything. Saw the other two Dan McD articles (the one above and one on how screwed Bohs are). False advertising!

Maybe he mixed up Bohs and Fingal. Easy to do in some ways. :)

I know it's what we're used to at UCD but losing Boyle, Evan, Bolger and Killer losing a lot of quality in one go. That's the whole spine of the team. Kilduff performs more of a function that just a goal scorer. Without knowing who is coming through it's always difficult to know how we'll do but I'm a bit worried at the moment.

I'd love to see Bolger go to Blackpool, it would be very interesting to see if a former College player could make an impact in the Premiership. Though I'd loath to see Kilduff at Rovers it would be amusing to see a player we picked up off them for free have to be signed back for a handsome price.

I'm a bit worried at the moment.
It's far from ideal alright - though it was flagged a while back - but Galway are as bad as us in the "losing players" stakes, and Bohs and maybe even Fingal will join us.

Bolger at Blackpool would be interesting if he got a contract and they went down; would they shed a few players and maybe give him a chance? Also another road trip. :)

Wardy joins Dundalk; Dwayne to Waterford. Greg and Killer close to moves to Fingal and Rovers for fees. Dave Mc rumoured to be signing for Pat's this month. So who's left at this stage?!

Keepers - Ger, McGinley, Jack Kelly

Defenders - Harding, Leahy, Nangle, Mick Kelly (if he doesn't go to Oz), Tomás Boyle, Seán Russell

Midfielders - Corry, Creevy, Morrison, Danny Fallon, Rochey

Forwards - Rusky

Hmmm...

Thomas Boyle is in The US at a college there. Rochey was in the US also trying out for some teams before Christmas. Rusky is talking to anyone that will listen to him.

There is also Robbie Benson, Tom o Hallron, Stephen Doyle, David o Connor, Paul o'Connor. I think that is about it, pre-season is back on Monday.

pineapple stu
12/01/2011, 9:55 AM
Figured I'd missed a few alright. I saw on Rusky's facebook that he'd probably stay, but I imagine he's asking around alright. Can't really blame the players for looking around if it means an extra couple of grand over the season in this day and age really.

I would have to agree in relation to players looking for what ever extra money they can, and it is unfortunate that we were not able to retain the squad. As it was said earlier in 08 the club had to rebuild, so now it is an opportunity for the younger players to step and move the club forward again.
Sammi Belhout is another player for the squad.

pineapple stu
12/01/2011, 10:49 AM
Suppose given that we're not the only side whose squad is breaking up - Galway and Bohs spring to mind - we should still be ok if we can find someone to score goals. No-one really jumps out of that squad, to be honest.

Mark Langtry is another name from last season. schumi, could you post up any gaps we've missed from last season?

12/01/2011, 2:40 PM
Well, that's a start. Fancy a game? Also, I still have that battery...

Suppose the coaching side of things is a bit more worrying than the playing. Saw that Aaron was off to Pat's as well to join Terry?

Still a fair few players out there on the free list; I dunno are we going to be looking entirely at young players or would we look at any on the PFAI list. The likes of Ally Mac or Karl Moore, for example. Or, well, anyone at this stage.

Edit - Gareth Matthews is another one unaccounted for.

Kilduff gone to Rovers (http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2011/0114/kilduffc.html). No mention of a fee, but we are due one, right?
