Great way to round up the season and it will keep us dreaming until we kick off again in march and of course tonights result ensured we stayed above Athlone to once again confirm ourselves as Midlands no1....

Doesn't really matter does it?

It doesn't really matter but it's nice that's it something like 11 seasons running we've finished above them. Good to finish off with a win hopefully we can hold on to most of the players we want to hold on to and can build for next year in the coming weeks.

it was a cracking result but the trouble was I got lost trying to find their godsaken ground and came in just after Cathal Brady's goal (57 mins). It was frustrating to go from the clifden side to near salthill and still no sign of the ground..:mad:And as for asking for directions the majority of the locals never heard of drum!!
That was towns third away of the season ( after salthill away and wexford away). It was our first away victory since mid july in wexford. It also kept our unbeaten record intact against Salthill Devon. In four games played since 1991 we have won three and drawn one.
Hynes finished top scorer with seven goals( thats including his goal against sporting fingal in the leinster senior cup at the start of the season..

Hope ya didnt have to pay in :)
as for finishing ahead of Athlone no it dosnt really matter but if we finished below them it would matter big time
Hope to God we keep Lee but I could see a Dublin club coming in for him a long time ago
As for the rest of the squad theres alot we can keep and if we do we can only improve so roll on next season.

What age is Michael Lee out of curiosity, 21 or so? If he was on pro forms for the past couple of years we could be entitled to compensation if he goes.

No it wouldn't matter "big time". We've more to worry about than finishing above Athlone.
Hope to God we keep Lee but I could see a Dublin club coming in for him a long time ago
Has anyone heard about this? If they came he would be long gone...

Think he is on amateur contract.

It'd be a shame to lose him, especially for nothing, but if he gets a better offer then he'd be dead right to take it. Is he finished college now or what?

He had a good game against Rovers, wouldn't be surprised if they'd been keeping an eye on him. Best of luck to him if he does go, I wouldn't begrudge it to him anyhow, it'd be a good opportunity for him.

I was talking to a lot of the players last night in the Spiral Tree as they were all staying in Pvs.. a lot of them wont know till hopefully next week if they are staying or not.. and I will be very worried about Michael Lee as I know for a fact that two big clubs in the big smoke are after him and I dont think he will stay if he wants to progress his career elsewhere and why begrudge him. Sammo and Shanahan think we are a much better squad than athlone from their time with them so there is a lot of positives to take from it.A lot of the lads love it here and think that if TC keeps the majority of the squad and add to it next season they will go places..

with all due respect marty i think you should be careful what ya mention about speculating comings and goings by quoting players on this as it might not reflect well on the player(s) and or club(s) involved

I'm getting a real fúcking kick out of this. Do people think that clubs go on here for information other than supporter feedback? And if they do, I don't want to be part of a club that does! They should be running the club instead of arsing around forums!
Do Shamrock Rovers come on here and look at rumours about Bohemians and who they are signing? No they don't!
All this ******** "Oh I better not say anything or Team X or player X will come to my house and tickle me 'til I cry!". It is hilarious! This is a forum for people to talk about stuff they heard and all the rest not a dick-measuring competition about who knows what!
Martinho II "two big clubs in the big smoke" had me on the floor!

Mick Lee going to a big Dublin club? He'd be way out of his depth. He's not good enough.
I'd take finishing above Athlone ahead of finishing below them. At the very least it would definitely mean no relegation playoff! However, I'd agree with LTFC - if players are saying it to randomers (no offence at all meant Marty) in a pub, it's hardly a state secret. The loi playing (and managing) pool is so small that everyone knows everything anyway.

And didn't make it there. He won POTY in a crap division 1 team, and undeservedly so imo. The "local lad" factor had a lot to do with it imo.

Ridiculous comment. Not like he's just won the Premier Division or anything.
Mick's at his level now, and he'd get eaten alive in the Premier.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if anyone on here thinks he is or isn't good enough. He has offers by all accounts so people in the game see potential in him. As for my own opinion, I wouldn't expect him to go straight into a first team at one of the bigger clubs but he's only going to get better with more experience, coaching and playing with better players so I'd think he can make a career for himself.

Think he is on amateur contract.
This complicates things. To the letter of the law, the first time a player signs a professional contract, the club he joins is due to pay a compensation to all the clubs he was with between the ages of 12 and 23 or until it's ajudged that his developement has finished. Either way, if he signed pro forms with Pats, for example, they'd have to pay us a certain amount to be calculated and Bohs perhaps a bit more. Of course, both could waive any such payment if it was only nominal for the sake of allowing him further his career

I'm not disputing the fact that he was one of our better players this season, but let's be honest, he had very little competition. Mark Salmon was more deserving of the award imo, but as I said already, I have a feeling the "local lad" factor worked in Mick's favour.
He's not a very good defender for someone who plays LB. His pace gets him out of a lot of situations that his poor defending gets him into in the first place. If he made those mistakes in the Premier Division then he'd get roasted all day long.

Is this a serious thread?? Seriously Mick Lee and Mark Salmon were our most consistent players and Mick pipped it for the award, well deserved in my eyes. As for him not been good enough to get in a premier team who cares he plays for LTFC thats all that matters.
Kieran your Enda Stevens comment is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, he kept Danny Murphy out who was the best left full in the league a couple of seasons back, Stevens is still a young player and has just won the league. I am gonna presume you think he is crap cause of his rating in Football Manager and not on how he has actually performed in REAL life.
As for this season great to finish on a high, we got 6 points more than last year which is an improvement irrelevant of some very poor results. People seem to forget that this was in a league that had Derry, Cork, Waterford and Shels. Im expecting more improvement next year as its the first time since we were relegated that we have kept a manager.

They had 13 players this season ffs!
Even if their budget was the same, they'll have a bit more time to get organised!
