AFIAK AIB have stopped given them in ATMs located outside on the streets because they kept on getting fined for people throwing them around the place.

I agree needless bits of paper.

Well the banks could start by empty their bins more regularly. Rarely feel the need myself, bar the mini statements...

untidy and pointless is right.....and if you get a recipt from a bank other than your own it has no info except the transaction code

Fookin 'ell, Max, this running lark must be getting to you. I can't believe that you'd let such a petty issue distract you from hating us poor misguided Celtic supporters. What will we do now?

;) PP

I agree totally as I see them as another litter source.
Unfortunately if you use the BoI machines in Centra stores you don't have a choice.

I more or less never get recripts from ATMs & see no point either. Its not as if anyoine saves them up & then matches against the quarterly statement or anything. Receipt print out is likely to give an error as balance displayed on the screen.

Suppose will be receipt tax thing now or something...?

Was that not already proposed by the government along with a tax on fast food packaging?
No harm in my mind.
There's far too much packaging on everything these days.
The government need to follow up on the good work done by introducing the plastic bag tax.

The Government and councils could start by putting more bins around the place and emptying them more often...

You don't seriously think that people throw litter on the street because they have nowhere else to put it?
Stand on Grafton St. or Henry St. in Dublin any day and watch people drop litter as they go. There are no shortage of bins on either of those streets.
Smokers are the worst offenders though. They seem to think it's acceptable to stub out a butt almost anywhere they choose.
Double the price of fags to pay for public sanitisation.
That'll teach them!

by the way chewing gum is a defo for the next tax hike,to compensate for having to clean it up off streets etc......

Yeah on those streets, go of the main routes and there's sod all bins. Once there are plenty of bins (at bus stops, taxi ranks especially), then start hammering people with fines.

Hasn't that already been introduced or are shops just ripping us off even more lately for gum?

Still don't think that's an excuse.
I don't want to come across all holier than thou here but if I have litter but can't find a bin I bring it with me until I find one or until I get home.
Maybe when you're from "the country" you grow up with a bit of respect when it comes to such matters. Dublin's litter problem seems to be getting worse but I've never seen or heard of a single fine being handed out to someone on the street.

I don't think it's excuse either, however if you give people no excuse then you can really hammer them with the fines. IMO the countryside is as bad, if not worse, than the cities - given the density of population differences.

1 Step away from Singapore (http://www.dumblaws.com/countries/countries.php?Country=Singapore)

Failure to flush a public toilet after use may result in very hefty fines.

Too right :D

You should get out a bit more.
Jackeen thugs think it's cool to throw their litter on the street while wearing Celtic shirts and shouting about how Irish they are.

Exactly, that's just what I was saying.
