i have heard on the grapevine that section O is to close for a time to allow work on the upgrading of the ground, any members of the section O group wishing to relocate to the stand must first write a 500 word essay on "reasons i should be allowed into the stand"...........
the winning essay will recieve a seat in the stand and a curry chip ( just one chip mind you) at half time.....certain members may not apply as ego restrictions are in place :D
I don't think most will relocate to the stand. If some do fair enough but we had a great time at the last home game and we'll have a go whereever.
but if we had to write a 500 word essay I'd start with:
I'd like to teach the stand to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company
I'd like to see the stand for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them sing throughout the game "we're best in the land"

the grammer is all wrong, you'd have to improve it a lot to win.....but good effort, that curry chip could be yours !!!!

the grammer is all wrong
:D :D :D
I'd prefer an essay from the stand on why we should move there...
Anyway, it's only minor disruption while they give us a roof...

macy if you want to be invited into our home you must be nice to us ( for a change ), but most importantly you must cheer for 10 mins and then moan for 10 and so on for the length of the match !!! ;)

more ground space other than section O! max seems quite eager to get the noisy ones into the stand.....maybe max should be composing an essay!! ;)

It's okay, I stick to supporting the team for the whole match. Not really bitter and twisted, or hypocritical enough, to go in the stand.

ah now macy tell the truth...... what if darragh got his place back in the team and lavine started every game....i think you could be swaying towards us........
but the major plus is shouting abuse at away managers......

I spent one game ever in the stand. It just seemed to be diluted with people who hadn't the slightest notion what was going on.
No encouragement what so ever, the height of abuse. No humour.
Just a second class area alltogether
Wont be moving there anyway.

And so the end is near
We face the final curtain
But only for a while
Our pride it wont be hurtin....
Ok theres a chant in there and cant finish it off... nothing new there...
But as Xlex said, we'll teach the stand to sing.... :)

a roof over the poor little fellas heads.......we need 2,500 covered seats so that area will close to allow that to happen

at the drogs game, i spoke to a promiment member of the committee who broke the news to myself . According to him he said that three sections of the ground would be closed to allow for redevelopment but wouldnt it make sense to close one or two blocks at the one time.. i am a bit confused longfordian can you confirm the full situation on the redevelopments for us please so we know where we can relocate for chanting purposes.
Don't think we need 2,500 seats - just a segregated covered away section...
Can't see them closing the whole ground at the same time - doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I'd rather stand on the tarmac infront of the shop/chipper than go in the stand...
Not supposed to congregate there due to licencing they have that area fenced off... We should locate to one of the ends.
Is that the end of section O?

Yeah, but it was just said that the 3 sides would be closed. Anyway, never moved Peter Kelly from that corner the one time he bothered his stumpy hole coming to a home match...
Not the end of Section O, surely the beginning if we have a roof?

macy from what i've seen of the licence regs i think we need 2,500 covered seats altogether, it would be nice to have all the seats covered and the camera point too, who wants to bring in an expensive camera to get it wet !!!!
i feel section O will return in greater numbers if a roof is put over them....

Think its 1500 seats we have to have covered, currently have 1433 seats covered in the stand. The boundary wall has to be reinforced around the ground so it makes more sense to place steel beams reinforcing it from behind and have a roof on top of the beams. Maybe one of those transluscent roofs :) . Work would begin if it wasnt for the government stalling on the confirmation of the grant, thank you Shels..Id say it will be done one section at a time, they wont close the entire ground at the same time

If Section O is to close, will it be sealed off? Maybe we could get a mural to cover where Section O once was temporarily .... a la Arsenal a few years ago...

I'd prefer they have the segregated away section in section d of the stand.Puts more people in the stand and puts all the town fans in the stand closer together, which leads to a better atmosphere
being a bit biased, and not wanting a debate with stand going folk but when our end is covered I can see us having some excellent times when section O is covered.

And the numbers swelling...
Leave my belly out of this...
Once they don't up the prices, a fully covered ground should increase attendances. At the very least, they'll be no more weather excuses...

agree with ya there xlex, it would be good to see a nice topical vocal support.....and yes i can see the numbers increasing too, i'll move our of the stand too, but i feel it will be to section M, i start a new cult and at least there will be a section between us if war breaks out !!!! ( again )
macy i can see the price being the same all over the ground if the facilities are the same in the whole ground i.e. a covered seat and accesable toilets
Hopefully the numbers will swell. The Stand will hopefully become a family friendly area after the terraces get the cover. Section O is suitable because it's close to the halfway line and people know where we are. If they want out of earshot of profanities etc. they have plenty of ground to go to. The sound will be projected out across the field. Currently, the stand have problems hearing us. But most of the players have no problems. Section O will be a great place to be. Of course, this is dependant on these Euro grants.

thanks to the f ec k i n government , there will be no grant for us! talk about a f u c k up! how are we goin to get the ground finished? tbh i would say the european tie will be switched to lansdowne. :(
The most important aspect of europe would be to play the home tie in Flancare. This is absolutely crucial. It's bad enough when Longford people look at it as too many Dublin based players without playing in Dublin.
FFS, there's enough highly successful construction giants in Dublin to give a dig out to flancare. The club should go to the Dublin Assoc and try to foster some sort of help in this regard. They should also go back to the voluntary help which enabled us to succeed last time out.
I feel very proud of the fact I helped the last time out and I will have no problem helping out once more.

If we get an A licence we'll get the grant. We're going flat out to get it in time (end of May) but theres no guarantee, if we dont get it it wont be good, from what i've heard we've a fair chance but theres a lot of sh*t to sort out and not a lot of time..Apparently Derry have contacted UEFA to demand that no team without an A Licence can play in Europe. Make of that what you will

So we need the money to get the A licence, but to get the grant we need an A licence? Or is it everything but the infrastructual elements of the licence that we need in place?

Just a couple of infrastructural things, mainly the other side of things, time is the main problem..
I probably wasn't very clear, so can you clarify....
To get the grant do we need the full A Licence, including the infrastructure (i.e. the ground)?
But we need the grant to get up to A Licence standard with the ground?
Longfordian
13/05/2004, 12:56 PM
OK, for licencing purposes the ground does not have to be up to full A standard until end of next season, but we do have to make some basic modifications now, which we are doing anyway. If we get up to A standard in everything else bar infrastructure, Rooney reckons the government have no option but to give us the grant to bring us up to full A standard infrastructure-wise
For once I agree with the government.
so bar infrastructure we're not in the frame for the 'A' licence yet. That's our admin setup which isn't right and what else? I really thought we were looking good in that regard.

We have a good shot at getting the licence, just depends on whether the things which need to be done can be done in time. Cant really give too much detail. Our main problem is that theres not enough people actually doing any work. If i absolutely had to give odds on us getting it done, id say its about 75-80% likelihood, but dont quote me on that!
If there is absolutely anything I can help at let me know.
