Victory in the first game against Malta

http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101278&catid=6&Itemid=17

Currently 2-0 up against Albania in the second game of the mini-group.

http://www.uefa.com/under17/matches/season=2011/live/day=10/session=1/match=2001580/matchcenterlight/index.html

Top two in the group go through to the next round so if Norway beat Malta later today, both Ireland and Norway will have qualified.

Could anyone tell me what they make of Roberts? I have read that he is a tall, skilful player, similar to Thierry Henry.

I love the match report "leaving the team unchanged proved a tactical masterstroke"!

I love name watching: Bradley Garmston. I hope he makes it all the way to the senior team. Poor old Travis Binnion never quite made it.

Binnion's a coach at Sheff Utd now according to wikipedia. Not bad for a 23 year old.

Full-time: Ireland lose 1-0, and end the first stage in second place. This will still take us through to the next round, as we had qualified before this match began. However, second in the group means that we’ll most likely play two first placed teams and a second placed team in the Elite Stage of Qualifying next Spring.

AlaskaFox

We got through to that stage the last time too, but you need to win the group to qualify then. And we all know how good Ireland are at winning groups!

Woah, woah, woah....... I can count plenty good!
It was the FAI website that named 12 people in the starting lineup.

Anyway, Match underway.

I followed the tagged trail to the FAI site and counted 11 in the starting team.
I do appreciate that you probably copied & pasted the 12 man/youth line up directly from the FAI site.
Probably :)

Hopefully we finish with a win today and the Greeks hold out for a draw. We look like we should have goals in us with the striking talent available. pity we missing Drennan from villa he always seems handy for a goal

2-1 up now, Roberts with the second goal

<EDIT>

According to the commentary on greenscene.me - http://greenscene.me/2011/03/live-commentary-stream-ireland-u17-v-latvia-u17/ - we will qualify if results stay the same because of a higher number of goals scored in games between the top three teams

3-1 now, Garmston scored on the 71st minute

Extremely harsh on the boys - 4-1 was a result deserving of qualification.

To think their qualification hopes were dashed in stoppage time in the other game - it must be crushing for those boys.

Although, at the same time it'll be a great learning experience for them.

Well done to them nevertheless!

AlaskaFox, are you suggesting therefore we've been evened out by Lady Luck?

I disagree - we should always be owed an extra bit of luck just because of the 'Luck of the Irish' etc.

Denmark scored their second three minutes from time against us. Then George pops up in stoppage time. Against Greece, who pops up again near the end, George! So maybe we were lucky, but today's performance was fantastic.

Wonder are our Danish equivalents thinking that's retribution for McLoughlin in Windsor Park all those years ago?
