According to this report a lot of Sligo players 'seemingly' suffered knocks on Friday and may be rested.
My question is, do yous think your manager is right to possibly compramise your league position and field a weakened team against bohs tonight in the hope of lifting a trophy on Saturday?
Obviously he has form for this, as I know a lot of yous who travelled to Dublin for the second last game last season were annoyed to see basically your reserves be annihalated by bohs becase of the cup final (three weeks later). Do yous think his desire for a trophy could cloud his judgement and ultimately cost yous a european spot?
As yourselves and Fingal's run-in are fairly similar with just a point in it and Fingal have the students at home last game and yous have Pat's,(I know a lot can happen before then) a result tonight could be huge.
What's your take on it?

Right back at you fellah. Presumably you're only interested in upholding the good name of the game?

Your magnanimous concern for our European ambitions and general wellbeing is duly noted and appreciated.

That report says nothing about Sligo players getting knocks. In fact it says
Sligo have no fresh injury concerns for the match.

Would of thought it makes sense to play a full team tonight beat bohs and watch them implode if they do not win the league which should then free up another european spot.
Sligo indicated before their cup match against us that they had loads of players out. Most of them played. I wouldn't read too much into reports of an injury crisis from that quarter.

I know a good few people were annoyed with the Bohs game last season but it didn't really bother me too much. We still had Drogheda at home which I was pretty sure we'd win on the last day of the season to ensure survival (in the end it didn't make a difference with everything that went on). I was expecting to rest a few but not that many really.
Now if we rest players tonight it might be different. I think the League Cup should be down the list. I think we should be putting all our concentration into qualifying for Europe one way or another. If only to make up for the shambles we made of it last season. I know we're not really in a position with all we haven't won down the years of turning our noses up at a trophy but having European football would help us attract some better players as well for next season as well.
However if means there's less of a chance of Shams winning the league then I'm all on for it!

Cook apparently very annoyed that the the FAI have sandwiched this in between the two cups games. Cant blame him for that, games have to be played but there is plenty of weeks left in the season to fit this in. He shouldnt rest players but to be honest I wouldnt be suprised to see changes. Im not saying we would be playing a wekened team as there isint much between some of our first team players and lads on the bench.
Not sure how Cook can complain. It might be different if he was travelling all over the country but its 3 home games and his team is professional
Getting a few jitters down Tallaght way are we GG?

Ya I agree Dodge, but as a professional manager hes always going to try and get the best situations for his team. Id be annoyed if he wasnt annoyed, if you know what i mean.

Why are Shams fans so preoccupied with what happens tonight??ye have a 4 point lead and in a title race you should be fully expecting that your nearest challengers are going to be picking up maximum points for the rest of the season. Now obviously ye still have to play each other but with the lead ye have and the results that ye have been getting(obviously taking the dundalk match out of the equation)then theres no way i dont see ye winning the league. Like even if ye lose to bohs its still a fantastic postition to be in to have total control over your own destiny so worry bout what ye are doing ffs!!
FWIW, I dont think we will get beaten tonight and that our team will be picked from the core group of 13 or 14 players who have started the vast majority of our games this season so ye can thank us bout 9.45.
I am sure Sligo will be up for it tonight, at the moment Sligo best chance of making Europe is to finish fourth ahead of Fingal rather than rely on winning the cup, so I cant see Cooke resting too many players as he did last year. Sligo should be able to take Monaghan at the weekend even if they put out their first 11 tonight.

Do you not think it would be sad if,to use this case as an example,Sligo fans left the ground happy because it meant a team from 200 miles away would have a harder task in winning a league? I know I would.
I maybe a new poster on this forum but your drivel is legendary.
On your point 1st time post,of course we are preoccupied with this game.Just as preoccupied as we were with Sligo,Pats,Fingals results in recent weeks but as it stands bohs are the only genuine challenge to us re. winning the league.
Also this fixture is reminisent of a bohs-sligo game toward the end of last season, but then you knew that.
Of course Rovers(1899) will aim to win all of our games but surely you realize that a result in Sligo's(1928) favour should make life easier for us and ease some pressure but then I presume you knew that too!
I suppose the existence of this thread sums up internet football forums. Its not needed,it wont change the world,it will probably slide into thread heaven tomorrow but hey were talking about it now-What else is there to do?...Work!

all he was saying was that Sligo Rovers fans on foot.ie have a long and distinguished history of detesting Shamrock Rovers and hoping that, if they cant win the league, Shams also dont win it. Your reaction to his post was way over the top.

Of course i realise how big a game this is for us and im really looking forward to it coz we are trying our best to finish 3rd which would be our highest league finish since 95 and of course Europe comes into it then, I do however think circumstances are a lot different this year but its just the way Shams fans go on bout that match against Bohs which annoys me. We did not lose ye the league last year, ye fcked it up yourselves at home to Cork and Derry. Also a point lost on many Shams fans is that last year Bohs got 7 points out of 12 against us and ye got 12 from 12 so if anything we aided your challenge.

I know exactly what he said.I read this forum before I signed up to it.I know of Sligos irrational online hatred of Rovers(in person they're not as fierce!),and I also have come to the firm conclusion that Marino bohs has,in the past spoken drivel.
If you think my opinion is OTT then I cant really do anything about that.
so if you knew that his post was based on the online hatred of Shamrock Rovers that you yourself have acknowledged exists, then why make any reference to drivel? Just being ignorant for the sake of it?

Oh and if we managed to beat Galway, as opposed to you lot beating bohs it would have been the same 3 point swing but as it happens the opposite was the outcome,so no need to bring up the galway result again. We also got beaten by bohs, derry, pats, bray that year-All the same 3 points lost!

As said earlier a bad result for both although id imagine bohs were the happier to get the point in the end. Wind dictated the 1st half with bohs playing with it although we created a good few chances in first half hour. Bohs had a few bits and pieces of pressure without really creating anything and then Quigley buries a free kick which should have never been given and our keeper will be disappointed with not having saved. I didnt have a great view of the sending off which to me looked harsh but if brennan did kick out at him he only has himself to blame. When we scored after a period of sustained pressure i taught there was no way we wouldnt go on to win the game but Bohs probably had their best spell for bout 10 mins after we scored. For the last half-hour it was again all us with blinkhorn missing a great chance and Russel nearly heading a winner in the injury time but was a little disappointed with the amount of clear cut chances we created after scoring.
Wouldn't be overly disappointed if I was a Bohs fan. A point still gives some hope whereas a loss it would have been game over for sure. Always disappointing to get a man sent off and then lose points though.
I would also say that Cook, like any ambitious manager, is in the job primarily to do the best for himself and by extension the club. If he makes the right decisions, the club does well. Any changes he made for the Bohs game last season (although I disagreed at the time), were to give himself and his team the best shot at success ie to ensure we won our last league game. I would have thought he could have played a full strength team in both but it paid off for us by staying in the PD. That's why he's the manager and if it had backfired he may not be in his job today.
The fortunes of Shamrock Rovers would have no influence on him whatsoever imo.

Easy mistake, I think you'll find that that new lad we signed during the Summer Transfer Window is actually Ballast Signs.
As for this pathetic thread can we please close it since from the line up it is evident that we have started with our first choice players and that it was due to Shams own ineptitude that they lost the league last season and not some big bad bogey man from the west.
