Who would you want between the posts in your side?

As a Dundalk fan I like Cherrie, though I've been impressed this season with some of the keepers around the league. Billy Brennan from UCD has been decent - am I wrong in thinking he'd a great face save this year?

Also Gary Rogers I think has been very solid, I never rated him at Shels but he's a decent stopper.

Galways Barry Ryan has had an excellent upturn in form of late hes currentley the best keeper in the premier imo while Doherty would have to be the top 1st div. keeper at the mo.

That spell in retirement must have done him the world of good :)

WHat he said. Ryan has put a horrible slump in form earlier in the season well behind him, and I wouldn't swap him for anyone else

He has been inspired over the last 10 games and is one of the major reasons we climbed the table and lost only one in our last seven games.

Cherrie probably..he has impressed in the three games he's played against Rovers anyway (I don't think he played in the 4-0 defeat in Tallaght)

Maybe it was only retirement for recreational use..

Limericks Dave Ryan is by far the best young goalkeeper and the best first div goalkeeper by a country mile

Not a chance in hell! Our now number 1 keeper is prob the best in the division and at 20 years of age will become one of the best in the country! Surely Cork fans can agree to that as he made some world class saves against them and any Sligo fan will agree with his performance in last years cup semi final where again he made world class saves anyone else whose played us will tell you the same! You just haven't seen it because you haven't got near our goal enough ;)

Would agree with this. He put in a great performance against us. Our own keeper would be somewhere near the bottom of the list I'm afraid.

No he's played 80% of our game this year but wasn't out number one last year or at the start of this year!

is that keven Burns? good keeper no doubt and at 20 fair comment but ryan is playing first team LOI football now for 4 years and is 21.

No doubt Ryan has more experience but I just don't thinks he's up to Burns ability standards!

Are you taking the ****?
His behaviour last Friday night cost us the game and his services for another 3 games and by all accounts he had a hand (or maybe not) in our defeat the previous week. He's still a solid 'keeper, although he's lost his marbles of late.

Cherrie hasnt been as good as he was before his mid-season injury. No doubt everyone has seen his amazing gaffe against shams on monday,he also has a tendency to "call" shots/headers as over only to see them come crashing back off the crossbar or barely scrape over:mad: and His punching isnt great(Liam Burns might disagree with me on that one though:D) All that said, i still believe he is the best in the prem and will only get better.Just might have his equal in Mannus.

Didnt he punch the athlone striker and give away a penalty, when the ball was in the other half of the pitch??

Regarding Kevin Burns, definately in the top 2 in the league, a bit of experience probly still needed on his park. But some of his saves this season have been outstanding!

there's a reason those 4 years were spent in the first division with the mighty lims tho

We signed him on a thirty-year contract.

Dave Ryan's a top keeper but has a heart attack-inducing tendency to come well outside the area to clear a ball when there's no need for it. Other than that, he does very few things wrong.

Dave Ryan's a top keeper

If he is a top keeper he wouldnt be playing for Limerick in the FD for the last 4 years. Maybe hes just the best kept secret in the LOI? :p

He's talking about John Burridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Burridge). Last senior appearance age 45 (for Queen of the South). Last Premiership appearance age 44 (for Man City).

The best keeper in the League is clearly Cherrie, the lad is phenominal.
One of his saves against shams from a twigg header the last day was pure class.
Granted he did make a balls of one situation but all in all he is the most consistant highest standard performer.

Ye it happened against us. They played Rhys Meynell in goals and he still managed to keep a clean sheet!!

There are a couple of keepers added to the squad, Daire Geraghty (who came on the last night) and Liam Grant.

I think there is a number of good keepers in the league Ryan, Rodgers and Doherty with Derry in the 1st division are all good. But for me its either Cherrie or McManus, with Cherrie just edging it for me. I know I'm biased as a Dundalk fan on this one, but as far as shot stoppers go Cherrie is unbelievable. Sometimes its like how the hell did he save that. Without doubt the good results we had during the start of the season were often largely due to Cherrie keeping us in games with some fantastic saves. One weakness I feel however he has is a tendancy to punch at corners and crosses instead of claiming the ball outright. I noticed this more since his return from injury. But I still think he is the leagues No 1 goalkeeper with McManus a close second.
