From Sligo Rovers Website:

The SRFC Astro League begins on the 20th September, with Westlife star Shane Filan the latest to enter a team into what the Bit o' Red hopes to be the best competition of its kind in the North-West.

Shane Filan signs up his team for the SRFC Astro League. Shane is pictured with Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cook and club CPO Keith O'Dwyer in The Showgrounds earlier this week.
There will be a total of €1000 prize money for the competition.
Games will be played on a Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday and one slot on a Friday night. There are six slots to fill every week. Matches will be played 8pm-9pm and 9pm-10pm.
The league will run right through until fixtures are played out, thought to be until May. Cup competitions will also take place.
Registration is €150 and the balance is payable in January.
The Showgrounds all-weather pitch is designed and manufactured to the highest standards in pitch technology.
The key feature of the ‘Mondoturf’ carpet is that it replicates natural grass which ensures the smooth surface does not graze or burn.
Sponsors have been secured and will be announced shortly ahead of the launch of the league.

Its a great idea i think and seems to be organised very well. Should be a good money spinner during the off season and lets hope it can be an annuall thing and grow.
