Hello everyone,
My name is Brian Whelan, from Drogheda, and I have recently written a book on the history of Drogheda United Football Club.
All the proceeds from book sales are being donated to the local Gary
Kelly Cancer Support Centre http://www.gkcancersupport.com/
'DUFC, A Claret and Blue History' takes you on a nostalgic journey through the history of Drogheda United Football Club.
This anecdotal account (240 pages long, including a 20 page photo section) of the club's history is told through the words, opinions and stories of over 70 people, including; those who have played for, administered, observed and followed DUFC.
The likes of Charlie Hurley, Liam Cullen, Mick Meagan, Mick Fairclough, Gerry 'Gel' Martin, Richie Kelly, Frank 'Dusty' Flanagan, Colm Tresson, Trevor Croly, Pat Devlin, Vincent Hoey, Harry McCue, Andy Myler, Gary Cronin, Dan Connor, Graham Gartland, and many more have been interviewed, in what is an emotionally-charged, yet often hilarious account of the trials and tribulations of DUFC.
Drogheda United as a junior club, the formation of Drogheda A.F.C. in 1962, the Lourdes Stadium, FAI Cup Final defeats of 1971 and 1976, the amalgamation of DAFC and Drogheda United in 1975, UEFA Cup games against Spurs, League Cup win in 1984, the 'Yo-yo' years, the epic Galway United playoff in 2003, the unheralded success under Paul Doolin, examinership...it's all to be found inside.
Hopefully the book can become an important contribution to he League of Ireland canon, and will be of genuine interest to all LOI supporters.
Please feel free to browse through www.drogsbook.com and for further information on how to purchase a copy of the book please contact me at drogsbook@gmail.com.
The book is priced at E15 (excluding P&P).
Thanks,
Brian
