Some pretty big fights coming up in Ireland and for Irish boxers. On Thursday Galway's John O'Donnell, the reigning Commonwealth Welterweight Champ, takes on a very highly rated Yank in London. O'Donnell is top-30 (light welter) in the world (combined ratings) and is still only 24. In October he's lined up to fight for the British title, and winning that he'll be handed a World title fight early in 2011. And a big money battle could be next summer between himself and Paul McCloskey, which would be tasty.
Paul Hyland fights on Saturday and is looking for an Irish and European title fight with Willie Casey with the winner taking on the winner of Kiko Martinez and his Armenian opponent, Brian Magee should beat his Armenian and get a World title shot in 2011 (he seems to be getting better with age but there is a limit).
And on the undercard it's the rubber match with Fitzgerald and Long for the Irish title at Supermiddle, could be fight of the night too. The 3 Cork Cubans are in action too.
For Andy Lee fans he's fighting the week after next against a decent opponent who he should tonk in the USA.
