not a bad side, they've been unlucky the last few seasons, just missing out on promtion or losing a play-off to get into the Super League. usually well organised and competitive
Thanks. Where are they based and what bout facilities ect

Longshanks,
Whats the colour of your jersey and could you give directions to McSharry pitch please,
Regards,
Swinfordfc
Dont know how familiar you are with Sligo town, but, go into the town on the old road down past the Sligo Park hotel and Markieviez Park, keep going till you get to the Garda Station and take the right turn at the station, its a small one-way street, at the end there is a mini roundabout, go straight through past Dunnes Stores(on you right), Mc Sharry Park is just there on you left hand side.
We wear either green top, white shorts, green socks or blach and white stripped top, black socks and shorts, seeing as we are the home side we will have to change to suit ye, what colours are ye???
unless there is a big thaw I'd be surprised to see the game go ahead

galway teams are helped by some of the most biased referees in connaught big galway teams always seem to get home games as well, feel free to correct me if im wrong
dunno about always getting home draws, will keep an eye out on that. It seems to be that most home teams get the call from the ref, although I've found that in a tight game against a big club from outside the county the Sligo refs tend to favour the away teams, maybe that just my perception or that the big clubs are big clubs because they win the tight games, or catch 22

Thanks - know Sligo well and have a good idea where that pitch is now .... we wear blue top with white tog and socks so there no problem there...... think there's a thaw on the way although at the minute - there's no chance any game would be on this weekend.

Pinero,
I was looking at the draw, of the 10 Galway Premier clubs, 6 have home draws 4 away and if the Galway Premier clubs were all to progress only 3 would be at home in the 4th round..............must be the refs so?!!?!?

Our pitch normaly drains very quickly, the problem might be for us at the weekend is that we have a U12 and U14 Connaught cup matches at home on Saterday at 12 and at 2 as both these games were postponed a couple of weeks ago away from home.

Any reports from around the grounds?

Cant see many games going ahead in Sligo, most pitches are still covered in snow/ice and although there is a bit of a thaw at the moment, it is unlikely that the ground under the covering of snow/ice will thaw in time for Sunday even if the covering melts. Whats the situation in other counties?? are they as well as to call off all matches or will theytry and squeeze a few in??

All Sligo/Leitrim league games have been called off this weekend, an email went to the Art Friel to ask about the Connacht Cup games? looks unlikely to be any games, although almost all the ice/snow is gone the pitches are still rock hard

All Conn Cup games are on but Sligo/Letrim have called theirs off so no games if you are away in sligo.
How can pitches be playable in Galway, Mayo, And Roscommon but Sligo not? Because they got excited had a bit of premature Ejac and called them off on Friday?? Such Bull!

i think sligo were too premature with the temperatures up yesterday and today all pitches will have thawed out sligo just decided too early i think most teams have had a look at pitches in mayo and knew they would be playable. so we are looking forward to balinasloe coming over west and hope it will be a good game

What happened City United? OLBC are a Division 3 Galway side. Were they missing the whole team?

I heard that there were a few of the players out on Sat night and that they only travelled with 11 players, they were supposedly 4-0 down after 9 mins. Dont know how true any of this is but its what I heard.
From a Roscommon point of view Shiven, Ballinasloe and Kilkerrin advanced, have any of these teams a serious shout at it this year???
fatboyslim
14/12/2010, 11:55 AM
if thats Citys attitude to a 3rd division team then good enough for them!!!
Shiven and Ballinasloe may go well but Kilkerrin would be the weaker of the 3.They can be hard to beat at home. Strugglin in the Premier this year.

I had tipped City to do well in this years cup, but they fell at the first hurdle. My other tips from Sligo/Leitrim are Carbury, they've a tricky away tie to Aughanagh on the 9th Jan, both teams will be rusty after weeks of inactivity. Boyle have gone right off the boil(apologies!!) of late and are at home to NUI from the Galway Premier. Manor are away to Moore Utd, Manor will have the advantage of playing a FAI Junior Cup game on the 2nd. To be honest I'd be surprised to see my 3 remaining tips progress.
West losing at home to Manulla is a bit of a surprise.

I would have a similar opinion. Ballinasloe have the best chance, Shiven are a tough physical side and Kilkerrin not much of a chance from Roscommon perspective. Castlerea are not going well at the moment and they face a tough tie v Ballina. Was really surprised at City i thought they would do well. Carbury are Sligo best chance i'd say.
Are Iorrathes Aonthaite a good side? Also i can see a Carbury v Ballina in last sixteen which would be a good game.

Dunno the odds but Athenry would have to be favourites, main challengers would be other Galway Premier teams, Carbury FC, Ballinasloe and a couple of the top Mayo sides....
1 quarterfinalist will be from (Westport v Corrib Rangers) v (Dunmore v Ballyhaunis).....would fancy Westport to win 2 home ties
another quarterfinalist from (Shiven v Manulla) v (Castlebar v Ballyhane).... tough one to call, Shiven with 2 home draws against Mayo Super League teams?? although Manulla won away to West Utd in the 3rd round.
4th round tie: East Utd v St Patricks(all Galway affair, East reached 1/4ers and semis in last 2 years)
Other teams through to 4th round are: Mervue, Salthill, Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, OLBC
Longshanks
15/12/2010, 9:59 AM
Looking at Athenrys draw to the 1/4ers they may not have things as comfortable as we think. 3rd round away to Ballymote(nice young footballing side in Sligo Super League), 4th round home to Mervue, 5th round home to Salthill(probable), away quarterfinal??
plenty of banana skins in that path, they'd wanna still have the hunger for it
fatboyslim
15/12/2010, 11:00 AM
it is hard to stay hungry no matter what competition or sport you play. This will be a huge factor for them. Some teams get complacent when they are winning for a while. This is where a good manager can really excel by continuosly pushing harder in training and keeping guys hungry. is it 3 or 4 in a row there goin for?

Would you believe its only a 2 in a row!!!
They won it in 07 and 08, Castlerea won in 09 and Athenry won it again last season.....still 2 '2 in a rows' in 5 years has a certain ring about it

Ballinasloe are always a good side and can really move the ball well so have a chance, cant see Shiven going anywhere, they wont the Roscommon league last year and that was their peak. i would be very comfortable in saying Kilkerrin will not win it as they are well out of their depth at this level imo, but saying that anyone who goes to Kilkerrin will get a hard game and be very glad if they come out with a result

Anyone care to have a stab at who the quarterfinalists will be??
I'll go with:
Boyle v Athenry
Oranmore v Westport
Carbury v City
West v Hibs
the above was from 10/11/2010. 3 of my 8 selections have played their 3rd round game, only 1 won(Westport). City and West are gone.
Time to revise my selections?!!?
Ballisodare v Athenry
Carbury v Ballinasloe
Oranmore v Westport
Castlebar v Hibs
3 of the 8 have made it to the 4th round, will the Longshanks curse strike again??

"Castlerea are not going well at the moment and they face a tough tie v Ballina. Was really surprised at City i thought they would do well."
Castlerea were well beat by Ballina last year, however after a slow start they managed to get back into the game and if it was for a few harsh sending off's thet it would have been alot closer than the 7-4 result it ended.

What is up with Castlerea this year? They were in with a great position in the league only a few weeks ago but have faded completely out of it. They seem to have lost all their experienced players. A strong side on their day when they have all these guys playin.

Hard say fatboy, havent ever got going since the Conn Cup win, still alot of players in the 25-29 age group so might have a chance of getting it back together again, a good run in the cup could spark the interest again.

Snow never materialised, but there was a tight frost this morning, game should go ahead. Damn the FBD league starting, we've 3 players in the Sligo panel and 1 in the Leitrim panel. Wont be at full strength, but thats nothing new, we've only had all our players once this season(beat Manor)
see ya Sunday
