This is brillant news.Spent many a happy(sometimes sad) Sunday up there. Those who never experienced the place will love it,very special atmosphere in the Markets. As previously said this should be a great reason to attain promotion as a (hopefully) developed Markets Field would be a proper home for Prem league football.
well done to POS and JP!
Happy Days

Great news, club is defiantly going in the right direction. With maybe one or two more additions to the squad we could push for promotion and possibly be playing premier division football in the markets field next season! All credit to Pat O' Sullivan and JP as well.

This is a great day for everyone who has ever helped out at Limerick Football Club, even those who failed. Reward has come dispite guess who trying to stop it :D

Pat O'Sullivan deserves all the credit as it is his being with limerick made persons such as JP more accessable. There are plans for the stadium and it will be the greatest stadium for LOI in the country. It was nice of the limerick leader to let the "journo" who panned us only two weeks ago be the one to break the story while the real football fan in their ranks was only allowed talk about other matters to do with the issue on the inside. We will need a true sports person at the games and not some toff talking about the arts thank you very much. :good:

oh ps, anyone seen bonovox??

We dont need any new signings. This club is going up as champions and the players we have are well able to
provide this. Why are we never happy with our squad,we have destroyed premier clubs in pre season
friendlies, everybody in the first division is very afraid of us,the bookies have moved us from eight to one
to three to one and some of us want new players....wtf

Pat O'Sullivan definitely deserves huge credit. Hats off to JP also. Even if we win the first division this will be the highlight of the season.

Can't wait to go home.

You can say what you want about new shiney stadiums ... but I will miss The Jacks. Its yer St Mels Park. ;-)

And I miss Mels a little more every time I set foot in the soulless Lissywollen

i miss mels too ash. but the markets field will never (fingers crossed) have the soulless lissywolllen effect as its not an out of town stadium. Its slap bang in the city. Limerick will be no doubt some two hours before home games be offering a tour around the existinig markets field a few weeks into the season just to show the sheer size of it and so on. Plans will be unvailed too and our offices should be set up there within weeks. Loads of vague sentences there but shur **** it :)

Huge congrats to POS and everyone involved with Limerick fc. JP, what a man. He should have a street named after him in the city

I could suggest something unkind involving the street that runs past the tax office -BUT nows not the time for that. Great news hopefully for the club. the last of the new beginnings.

Ash you are probably too young to remember but you won the league in the Markets Field in 1981 almost a year after we won it in Mels.

We will also be going back to our spiritual home where we played for our first 47 years of LoI football.

Does this mean Limerick will have a home are are they just tenants?

The way ive had it explained to me is we own the ground but if we were to go bust the ground would transfer from our ownershp back to the LEDP.

We're the anchor tenants in a municipal stadium.

Many, many clubs on the continent (the two Milans for example) are in the same boat before anyone starts cribbing!

Best solution ofr the fans - club would have a home as anchor tenants with presumably nominal rent but cannot mortgage the ground to buy/pay players.

The ground will always be there for football (and other sports) in Limerick.

I like your optimism that we are going up as champions, but just because we are winning games in preseason does not mean it will continue to competitive fixtures. As far as the squad goes, with the disaster that happened against Finn Harps on Friday its obvious we could do with more squad depth. Gary is now out for the foreseeable future and Steve-o is banned for the next few games. We will struggle to get results against Cork and Shels now, which wouldn’t have been the case if we had more depth and if players like Tierney or Clarke were still at the club.
