I am picking one up today at 3.00 so i want to know everything now !! :) Is there a function to stop downloads or cap it when it gets to the monthly limit (if kids pick up the phone and go for new games etc.). Is there a website to review the apps that are available on it.

I'll probably be back with loads more questions soon !! :)

I've been lookind at the HTC HD2 (http://www.o2online.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/O2ProductDisplayView?storeId=10001&langId=-1&enableAddToCartBtn=true&catalogId=10001&phoneId=141007&flowType=P&productId=141007&newFlag=&partNumber=35412003&wcmArea=) on the O2 website but at the moment it's not available on upgrade, it looks fantastic though. I don't suppose anyone has this?

I was looking at them as well and there isn't much difference between the two, nothing major anyway. It doesn't say what version of Android it uses (Desire is 2.2) but it looks good.

I'm with Meteor, and i think its just changed (at least thats what i was told in the shop)

edit: Just checked, its Firmware Version is 2.1-update1 for HTC Desire A8181

2.2 must be out soon because they were all talk about that in the shop, using it as a selling point.

You should do a check on the handset (Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates), apparently Meteor Desires are stock, so you should be able to get the HTC update without having to wait for the network garbage. The langers in O2 are still fecking about with it, despite the fact that - currently at least - the O2 image just has a splash screen. Jesus help them if they add a load of crap into it.

Is that as a bill pay? PAYG on meteor.ie is quoted as over 350€

I've been thinking about getting an android phone myself, can you manually force the install of the latest release direct from Google, or do you have to wait until your network releases it?
If so, are there any drawbacks - voided warranty, unsupported features, etc?

Incidentally, Apple have filed a patent to disable handsets that have been jailbraked (jailbroken?) - http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-20014356-37.html?tag=topTechContentWrap;editorPicks

To force install you have to debrand, which requires you to root the phone; the Android/Linux version of jailbreaking. The new ROM doesn't have to be rooted though. Your warranty is intact, and you can revert to the standard ROM if you wish. Backup, backup, backup.
