My Creative Zen V Plus is playing up a bit. I've to run the recovery tool on it, but it is getting old and has put up with a fair amount of abuse so I'm not going quible too much if it needs replacing. Has anyone any experience of the Creative replacements, as above? The 4gb Mosaic is down to €40 now, but is a few years old too.

Pardon the pimpage but I've an 8GB Sony NWZ-A818 (http://www.adverts.ie/239768/ipod-and-mp3/sony-nwz-a818-8gb-walkman-mp3-player/) if that's any good to you, lost the headphones and potential buyers don't seem to get that you can use, you know, any headphones? Surplus to requirements now I - finally - have a phone that actually does MP3 without buzzing. Great MP3 player, took me months to nail down. €50 to you, which is waaaay less than half it cost me.

i had 2 Creatives Zen M and Creative Zen W
with the Creatives Zen M, i had a cracked screen so brought it back to the shop where i bought it, so they could send it off for repair, still waiting on it to return  that was october 2007

then i bought a Creative Zen W, had problems with firmware, was reading up on it, apparenly it creative has issue with creating updates, i had to run the recovery tool on it, all the time, was doing me head in, so i bought a Ipod nano 16gig 4th Gen, never had a problem with it.

the 5th Gen has a radio on it i think, maybe go for that

Thanks all.

Don't sony protect the files or something, so it's hard to transfer to other machines not running their software? Apart from in built radio, one of the main reasons for me going to creative was big brother not watching everything i do and allowing easy transfer between PC's/ Laptops at Home and Work.

ipod's again are limiting in the experience of friends that have them, and no built in radio. Had a similar issue with the vision M, but video playing isn't a priority (walking, car and work are where I use it). Was tempted by the one that you can link to the wireless network, but doesn't do internet radio which would've clinched it.

I'm really just looking for an upgrade to the existing one. However, I think it could be a cable issue interupting when it's docked that's causing it to crash. Didn't happen at home yesterday, but crashed mid transfer here in work. So a cable swap will be the first attempt in these times...

They used to a couple generations before my one, but they don't any more. Bog standard drag and drop over USB now.

Someone offered me €60 for it today, but if he doesn't follow through on it the offer stands. If he does, I'd strongly recommend going into a Sony shop to look at their players, they really are very good. Then when the sales guy gets to the price, laugh your ass off at him, walk out of the store, and buy it on the web. Get the laughing right now, those guys are c*cks.

(Not all of them, but one of the guys in Patrick Street in Cork fed me a line of bull about Amazon and VAT the last time I was in there, lied through his teeth, got caught rotten, and wouldn't discount by a penny afterwards. Total c*ck. The older guy in there is sound though.)
