Comfortable win for Derry in the Brandywell tonight after Wexford had gone in front early on. Wexford started with Packie, Wolfie, Anto, Aidan, Dean, Gary, Jimmy, Shane D., Gareth, Kevin and Danny up front on his own. Derry started the brighter but Wexford went ahead against the run of play when a simple long ball found the two Derry halves in trouble and Danny took a touch and put it away comfortably with his left. Derry then scored the next two but Youths will be disappointed with the softness of the goals conceded. Derry's first came from a far post header from a corner by an unmarked Derry attacker who headed back towards the near post and it went in off the bar. Derry's second came from a whipped-in cross from the left which again found an unmarked attacker on the near post and he nodded it away past Packie. Derry again hit the bar with a header late on in the half while Packie made a good save also late on. Shane had a good run and shot for Youths before the end of the half but Derry went in two-one.

Hopper had come on for Kevin midway through the first half but Derry continued to dominate and hit the bar twice early on in the second half when Derry attackers came in from our right and hit the bar at the far post with good shots with Packie beaten. Third goal for Derry came from their right wing who went past two Youths defenders and put it away with his left with nobody closing him down. Game more or less fizzled out after that with Youths finding it hard to create anything other than trying to find Danny over the top against the Derry halves who look a little slow to turn. Going forward, however, Derry have a pace and movement which I don't think anyone in the Division can match. Late subs for Youths were Muzzi and Martin Kehoe. Unused sub. for Youths was Greg Yelverton (?) who I'm told is ex Cork. Three-one to Derry at full-time with about 15 making the trip from Wexford.
