Preview of CS Grevenmacher v Dundalk

Dundalk are the first Irish side in European action as the road to the Europa League final at the Aviva Stadium in May begins with the First Qualifying Round. The Lilywhites travel to Luxembourg to take on Club Sportif Grevenmacher, who earned their place in the competition by finishing third in their league last season.

Ian Foster's side, who owe their place to Cork City's demise, will end an eight-year absence from European competition at the Josy Barthel Stadium tonight. Although they slipped up in the league at the weekend with a defeat to Bohemians, Dundalk have enjoyed a good campaign so far and will be confident of picking up a positive result.

dundalk should at the very least be looking for a scored draw but really a win here. i hope they dont let the league down, its luxembourg and we should be confident about seeing these type of ties off.

It's not much of a preview, but in fairness we know feck all about Grevenmacher. They're in pre-season and are only getting a squad together. Apparently we're strong favourites with the bookies. Very warm over there apparently which will work against us, but will be shocked if we don't progress. We should really be winning home and away but I wouldn't expect anything too attacking over there.

Keep it tight and hopefully nick an away goal ! Scoring draw away would be ideal - keep the tie alive and hopefuly get a bit of a crowd for the second leg (I know fans want a six nil away win ;) but it wont get a crowd for the second leg ) As posted elsewhere best of luck !

It ended up 3-3, we (Dundalk) had a 2-0 lead going into half time, but we let in 3 goals in the space of 12/13 minutes in the second half, but we then got one back. Disapointed we didn't hold onto the lead but three away goals to bring back to Oriel definately makes us favourites.
